|
|
Hi all
I currently have the garmin nuvi 350 with the city navigator europe v8 map preinstalled. It has coverage of Athens in Greece but there are very few roads at the rest of the country. I found out that there are some more detailed maps for Greece from ngi www.ngi.gr
I found and downloaded those maps but they are for the destinator only. Is there any way to convert these maps to work on my garmin unit? And if yes how would i upload them?
Thank you |

You cannot convert mapping data between the formats, the data needed by your Garmin will be totally different to that required by Destinator - Mike |

I found a quite detailed map of greece from www.blue-whitegt.com and downloaded it as a torrent. its quite good this torrent site for greek stuff! probably its the same with the link you posted jamas.
Do you know how can I make it routable? or is it a pain to do that?
i've heard that the garmin launched the new city select map V9 for europe with the nuvi 660. Do you know if it has any new data for greece?
It would be really nice if i can ever get street names for my town githio at lakonia (mostly for fun as i grow up there and there is no way to get lost there! also because there are NO street names signs at the town it self ) but i guess this won't happen for the next 5-6 years unless i create my own map!
kalos sas vrika Jim! ! |

At blue-whitegt It says registrations are open at the moment.
They dont have them open all the time as it seems they've got problems with their server. Try again later and you will register. |

Torrent? It's not a pirated version, is it? |

A freeware Garmin map of Greece? I doubt that unless it is from Robert Elsinga's website. I might be wrong of course, but I'm not aware of any other sources. |

Basically its the same map from the link Jamas posted before. Even if i wanted to download any illegal map for greece, i dont think it exists!!
even the new garmin maps for europe V9 i doubt that they have as much data as this map. the only bad thing is that this map is not routable.
unfortunately, when it comes to new technologies Greece is usually treated like a second class european country |

It is probably the fault of whichever government body is responsible for "mapping" the country. And who is stopping you from making your own - quite a few people in Eastern Europe are doing it. |

My father is a civil engineer and i had the change to have access to oficial goverment maps for urban zones and fields that you can or cant'y build on them and there are maps with very high details. Of course at UK the national ordance survey has mapped the 100% of the country years ago, while in greece they're struggling to finish the 100%. it estimated they will have it ready at 2-3 years, but nothing is for sure!
It just seems that GPS companies are not intested enough for the greek market to produce high quality maps yet |

Again it's not down to some mysterious "GPS companies", it's basically down to your local Garmin dealer to produce the maps. If they can't be bothered to do it for their own market.... need I continue? Perhaps there are simply no source data for Greece. |
