She can't possibly have been looking out the front window. So proof that sat nav can't replace common sense. _________________ Dom

Jesus not another one.
This reminds me of what happened when Mobile Operators launched 'pay as you go' Releasing Cell Phones on the masses.
Prior to such universal availability mobile phones were pritty much the domain of the business user - Salesmen, engineers. People who could manage to drive and handle a phone without killing themselves and everyone else [1]
Then pay as you go hit the market and suddenly everyone had a damn phone.
The analogy being thus - Will plod see this as another opportunity to legislate against the criminally stupid and drag us all down with them? How long until we see such units banned from being used because of these idiots.
Or Maybe it's just Darwin trying his best again!
JD

Would it come to the point where these devices are banned?
Just think of the alternative, equally stupid idea of those people driving along with maps on their steering wheels, struggling to work out which way up to have it _________________ Andy

True True :D But I'm not overly aware of the increasing number of reports where this has happened.... Either that or when it does people are quickly throwing the map in the glove box :p :p :p _________________ TTG 300 Died the death of a cracked screen

The trouble is that some people hang on their every word.
However, if your PC says "you've got a virus", do you go rushing to see your GP?
Sadly, some people weren't even in the queue, never mind near the front, when common sense was handed out _________________ Andy

The government could look at this and think we could make a bit of money out of this .
1 all sat nav users need to be licensed at say £50 per year for the first year increasing by 10% each and every year
2 Users will need to take a test on fitness to use when purchased at a one of cost of £70 .
3 A yearly environmental test to ensure the Sat nav takes you on an environmentally friendly route at the cost of £50 .
I know its a bit silly but paying £1-20 a litre for diesel is not very funny as well
With ideas like this perhaps I should be standing at the next election |

If they can't keep tabs on those who don't have tax or insurance, even with the aid of countless ANPR cameras, what hope is there of the being able to police this?

Fitness? You mean this suggestion is to be sponsored by a chain of fitness centres
I think you meant a competence test - how many 'fit' blondes would you trust with a GPS?? _________________ Andy

I bet she had positioned the satnav device right in the middle of the windscreen like you often see. "sorry officer, I just didn't see it! That river must have been in my blind spot." _________________ Dom

is it worth having a new forum solely for idiot-related stories??!!
thing is, the media always make out that the sat nav is to blame when clearly it is the idiot driver...

Just to Apologise to PaulB...
I Duplicate posted this, but just to say, that's because I DID search the News Forum, which is where the other two recent stories like this are listed Paul.
And not seeing it, created a new post.
The problem being, it DID already exist, but not in the the same topic forum.
And my reason for mentioning, as well as to apologise...
Just to jokingly say that yes, as per MaFt's suggestion, if idiots are going to be doing this so frequently, maybe we should have a relevant "Idiots Get Lost" forum, so then I know where to check before posting.

Perhaps she thought that air bags were for the outside of the car and she could float down the river as an amphibious vehicle. Also I agree with the idea of an "Idiots get lost Forum"

BBC News wrote: | the track where the 45ft (13m), 44 tonne truck has been trapped since early on Wednesday was suitable only for tractors. |
Here is another one
And to prove it was the drivers fault:
BBC News wrote: | She said the lorry had gone past a sign which said the track was unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). |

I can see a pattern appearing here. It's not that the sat navs are unsuitable for the roads but that Welsh roads are unsuitable for satnavs.
Are there any roads in Wales with tarmac, better still are there even any roads.
