|
|
Could anybody please share any experience, if they had, with using 4Gb SD card containing the maps (e.g. Europe maps) on the ViaMichelin GPS (e.g. X-960) with Version 7.
I am dismayed by the fact that the Europe maps take most of the 2Gb of the SD card provided. This leaves very little place for personal data and MP3 soundtracks. I wondered why shouldn’t I purchase a 4Gb SD card and try putting the maps onto that. But it did not work. I wonder why? Was it because the 4Gb needs to be of HC type? Or should it not be HC type?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you |

No - I've tried the same and it doesnt work on my X970T either.
It seems that the units can only read standard SD cards, not the new HC (high capacity) type.
There are a few online retailers selling standard (non HC) SD cards with 4GB of memory which should work fine - I guess.....?! |

if you bought a 4Mb SDHC card it won't work in the unit. ( I think )
There is a subtle different in the way the new cards work. The only way a 4Gb card will work is if you can manage to get one of the old formats.
( SD not SDHC )
I managed to get one for my MP3 player about 12 months ago, but I cannot find any now. All new cards bigger than 2Gb are SDHC format.
the SDHC card is physically the same but works differently inside. All equiptment now will be marked "SDHC" near the card slot if it is compatable. If the mark isn't there it won't work. ( sorry )
My 970T new edition is simpy marked "SD" and won't work with the card I borrowed from my son's camera, it won't even recognise it as a card.
( btw SD cards work in SDHC readers ). |

Thank you for the quick reply/posts.
I tried ordering these HongKong 4Gb SD cards that did not mention any HC (the ones that had no SunDisk printed on them). But they also were not recognised by the device at all. |

It might be worth putting the question to VM's helpdesk. In the Help section on the VM website, question/answer 2409
"What are the key technical specifications of my ViaMichelin Navigation X-980T?"
states that the 980 can accept 4gb cards. Although this was before the New Edition versions came out, there have been statements that the NE hardware models were not altered (but of course, they might have been). Without looking further, it's not certain whether or not the 960/970 have a similar capability. If they have, then VM should be able to confirm what sort of SD card is compatible. _________________ David
