This is basically the same question as this one (albeit with a different machine) and I suspect you will get the same answer.

They are both good units, the choice will be down to personal preference. You need to try them both out in a shop to find which feels best for you.
I don't think there have been many problems with the ONE XL mount at all (were you thinking of one of the earlier models?).

They will both take the PGPSW speed cam database.

Hi Den
Can't comment on the Garmin but I bought a TT One XL just before Xmas.
As an infrequent user & someone who doesn't require all the bells & whistles, I've found the unit excellent, quick GPS aquisition and response to wrong turns.
I too had heard the reports about the mount so bought a lockable type of e-bay (about £6-8 I think).
Tried the original anyway - no problem, plus as it is a ball/socket fixing it allows infinite positioning - if you're like me and it drives you crackers when it's not on straight Razz

It does take the DB off this site

Good luck
Steve

I was in the same position as you recently and trying to decide which to choose the Tomtom or the Garmin.
As Andy says it is really down to personal taste but for me after looking at the Garmin and having owned a Tomtom previously i just did not think I would get used to the way the Garmin displays its mapping .
I am not saying the Garmin is a bad sat nav to be honest which ever one to pick you will not go wrong with ,
The Tomtom 520 can now be picked up for about £ 155 !!!

Regarding the mounts there are other solutions for the Tomtom such as brodit mounts which are very good and bean bag mounts which can be got from the USA

With regards the speed camera data base the Pocketgps one is so much superior in my opinion to the Tomtom or Garmin

Den,
I've only ever experienced the Street Pilot in a Garmin badged product and to be fair it did seem quite a nice unit. I think you'll be hard pressed to beat the TomTom for clear routing and voice instructions, map display etc.

Garmin Nuvi 3598 + GO 720 (+USA Map Card) + NavFree for iPhone in case all else fails ;-)
