i know this has been mentioned before but is there any way you can amalgamate all the pub poi's into 1 or maybe 2 eg pubs and pubs with food
or just plain pub ..As down south there are loads of pubs not on the poi list which could be added
or if not which pub would be best used for all the unknown pubs out there

I'm not sure I would support such a change. There are far too many pubs in the country, and we are never going to get a complete POI file contain every single one. When I look for a pub, I usually have some idea of the type of pub I want to look for, and so the different distinctions are useful. if I'm just looking for any old pub, I can usually do it without my SatNav (and without the car, for that matter!).
One possibility would be to split up the Food & Drink category (it is starting to get a little unwieldy!) into two. All the pubs could then be placed into one of these categories, but still containing the different sub-categories as currently.
However, I realise that this would probably cause a lot of work for somebody, so I'm not going to push the suggestion unless it gets much more support. |

yup i know we will never get a complete pub list ,but there's nothing better than pointing to a pub on the pub map and going there for lunch . _________________ TomTom 5001 |

So would you be happy making your all-in-one pubs category yourself, andy?
If that's all you want, its easy in POI Edit
Just "open" the first pub file, then "append" the rest and "save as" with a new name. |

It is sometimes difficult my suggested alternative and which is what i try to stick to:
Pubs with Dining Room or Dining Area = Dining Pub
Pub without food = Pub
And start a new category for Pubs with grub i.e. Bar food = Pub Grub
Apreciate it is difficult to recategorise once they have been submitted but eventually I am sure they will get changed as time goes on. |

Could even split the Food & Drink into four categories, so that it doesn't cause confuession between them. It would also make it easier when sub-categories combined to be The suggestions for categories I have are:
# Resturants
# Fast Food
# Pub food & drink
# Coffee shops/bars
As for sub-categorising Pubs, it could be done, but without the knowleage of what pub does what, then it will be very hard! _________________ Mike Fisher

It would be hard for any category, I think the main problem is that everybody has their own opinion on what a category should be, perhaps the database should have been categorised in the first place (Not a criticism Oldie, Just hindsight) perhaps it may be wise for Oldie or whoever to take control and add categories even if empty to allow the members to reconfigure the entries before it gets to out of hand.
Sorry to suggest this added burden Richard, but you do a marvelous job already. |
