Hi, I have just installed uk & ireland 2008 update maps on my nuvi 610T.I have got my custom pois installed on a 2gig sd card at the moment.I would like to know if it would be advisable to put my custom pois directly onto the nuvi itself and put the rest of europe maps on to the sd card on there own. Or will it be ok to keep the custom pois & the europe maps on the same card.
Cheers swinman. |

Swinman,
Here's what I have done. I have a Nuvi 270 with US and Europe maps
installed internally. Because of an upcoming trip I have created
custom POI files for the Great British Heritage Pass and an assortment of Pubs in our region.
The created files must go in the GARMIN folder on your SD card (2 GB).
I used individually named folders within GARMIN like
poi-Cheshire Pubs
poi-Cumbria Pubs
poi-GBHP
and so on ...... with the specific poi.gpi file within the individual folder.
I also have the UK Topo v2 on the same SD card
gmapsupp.img
gmapsup.unl
Evidently you can only have one map on the SD card.
It is OK to have your Europe maps on the SD card along with your custom POI's. Works fine. You have to go into Map Info on the Nuvi
to activate the map.
The only thing to watch for is the size of the maps and poi's (+2 GB). |

How much of Europe will you be driving? You can get ALL Europe in about 1.5Gb but with MapInstall you choose how much you want. The less you select the smaller the file and the more space for POI's. In fact POI files are very small so a "gb card will give space for all Europe, all the POI's you could want and still have space over for some MP3's.
I prefer NOT to let the POI's get on the Garmin itself because of the 257 category problem. |
