Tomtom one 1st edition.
Hi there, as above.. I have backed up/restored used different SD cards, updated through tthome and nothing is helping.
I save location in the favouties and its fine... untill I turn the unit off/on.
I have had it for about 16 months and this has never happened before but now it keeps happening.
Also, when searching for location by postcode I encounter problems, I start entering the postcode but after the 1st 3 letters/numbers I cant enter anymore and it just shows the town in brackets next to the start of the post code I have entered.
Is this something others have come across?
Im not sure what else I can do, perhaps I have duff files/folders? I have tried removing all loose files and allowing tthome to update and install them but to no avail.
Here is a screenshot of all files/folders on my tomtom one - http://www.boomspeed.com/craigc38/tt1.doc
Any help appreciated |

The first thing I noticed is that there is no zip Folder. This is the reason your Postcode is not working correctly.
One other small point, because there is sometimes duplicity of Filenames, it helps if you untick the Option to Hide extensions of known File Types in Folder Option of Explorer.
Another 'one other thing', if you can display the File/Folders as details, rather than icons that would be a plus. _________________ Richard

Not sure if the zip folder is one of the problems with Home backups or not. The usual advice is to back up using Windows - see #1 of the FAQ. This will ensure that everything is backed up (Home is known to have "issues").
Also, it's best not to get people to open Word documents due to macros / viruses etc that can be contained in them (not saying yours is). Just point to the jpg itself and browsers will show it. (This is just friendly advice, not a telling off, honest ).
If you don't have the zip folder in a backup, a version can be downloaded from TomTom here. This was given out to some users in January and is still active. _________________ Gerry

Firstly thanx everyone for your replies, much appreciated and oldboy you have PM...
The tomtom one folder is set to show all files/folders so none are hidden, what you see is what I got.
Here is anither screenshot but of the details of the files/folders rather than the icons as requested.

Thanx again |

I dont see how image files affect my postal code searching or favourite locations, I understand what you mean though but the images ie.. the splash etc work fine.

He is using image files as an example of the issues of file extensions being hidden. He is not suggesting that it is they that are the cause! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Sorry, I didn't explain very well.
It's much easier to see what you have, when you can see the full name, including any extension. This was more for future reference.

So, can you now show us a picture of the files/folders WITH the three letter extensions displayed? (Explorer Tools menu/Folder Options/View tab/UN-tick "hide extensions for known file types).
as said just send the jpg image not a Word doc.
Find the file called MapSettings.cfg in your Great_Britain-Map folder and look at its properties. Check the "read-only" box is not ticked. |

Cool that's better. (no need to save it, there's lots of other ways to see it bigger, one is to just open it in a new browser window).
Try to get used to seeing/using the file extensions, as they can really help to see what's going on.
For example, a common problem when people try to make their own files for alet sounds or startup screens is to add the extension themselves and then the program adds it again, so you end upwith files called e.g. "splash.bmp.bmp". The TomTom will refuse to use it, but without having the extensions displayed all the time you'll never spot the mistake.
Another example is the data.chk files.
Windows will flag those as being "recovered file fragments" (i.e. junk left over from a crash, that can be deleted... but WE know that a .chk file is a vital VOICE file for a TomTom!
Anyway.. how about the read-only attributes of that MapSettings.cfg file? |
