You have downloaded a file called POIs.zip.
You must unzip this and it will give you two files, - newPOI.bmp and newPOI.ov2.
You copy both these files into the map folder (directory) you wish to use - Great Britain map. They do NOT go into a folder inside the map folder. _________________ Dennis

Hang on a sec..
Dennis is coorrect when he says:

But then goes onto say:
Great Britain map.[/quote]
That's not the whole answer.
You put the POI files into the map folder of ANY and EVERY map you want to use them with.
In other words, if your Europe map covers the UK, and you ever intend to use it while in the UK, then your UK POI files need to be copied into that map folder TOO.
So my question is... why are you still using a 'UK only' map if you have got a (presumably) newer one that covers the whole of Europe, including the UK? |

Both maps are v715, Andy, so I assumed he is only using GB for performance benefits, AND if he goes off into Europe he won't need UK POIs because they won't show up in France etc. _________________ Dennis

Performance benefits?
If both are v715 I thought the UK would be the same on both?
Even the "curves v. straight lines" compression issue I thought was the same on these two. |

Don't ask me! I wouldn't have both maps myself. But I thought it runs faster if you only use a small regional instead of a large continental, or am I wrong? I'm sure I saw it once, before I started getting age-related memory problems. On a GO300, he has to have BOUGHT both maps and there's got to be a reason for that.
(But just for interest, I have WE v710 on a 720 and W&CE v710 on the 920 and occasionally I do get different nav instructions from them). _________________ Dennis

Ah, didn't shadamehr or somebody say that they'd compared the maps.
I think the conclusion was quality of mapping -
the W&CE maps have greater compression in order to save them onto a specific sized SD card, so the quality is marginally poorer
the WE maps contain slightly less data and don't require such great compression, so the quality is marginally better
Unless you're travelling to Central Europe, I would have thought the WE maps ought to be more appropriate _________________ Andy
