|
|
I've recently purchased a TT720 and have set up the computer connection etc.I'm a it confused about POI - if I ask the TT to find my nearest swimming pool the only one it brings back are ones hundreds of miles away abroad - nothing at all in the UK.
Do I have to setsomething else up or do I have the wrong set of POI installed.
Intrestingly enough I downloaded the swimming pool POI from this site and it doesn't contain anywhere near the amount I thought it would

TomTom's OWN POI's are absolutely NAFF mate.
As indeed are TomTom's own Safety Cameras Service - it only has fixed, not mobile, and even then, they are miles and miles out of date.
The Speed Cameras Database on this site is the best in the business, bar none.
Coming back to TT's own POI's, try searching for a doctors or dentists near you - you'll probably get offered on in Ireland.
This is a known issue of how BAD TT's own POI's are, and they have released a patch for this, that goes SOME of the way to resolving this.
Unfortunately however, one thing you HAVE touched on somewhat more fairly, are the POI files available for free on this site.
The obvious candidates, such as Banks, ATM's and Garages for Fuel, are very very good.
But for other categories, the info is hit and miss, at least in terms of the numbers, as sometimes they might even just be one man's submission of his local pools etc.
Please don't take this as an indication of the overall quality or worth - you have picked a good example of a less contributed type.
Were you to go for ATM's or Fuel etc, you'd see a much more in depth and reliable result than TomTom's poor and incorrect offerings.
And as I say, the real strenght of this whole site is it's Speed Camera Database - believe me, this IS something that is VERY VERY good!
Hope this helps. |

Notwithstanding the swimming pools it has my own doctor and dentist on there, and their names AND their correct telephone numbers!!! Not all bad then? |

As he said...
It's almost criminal how bad TomTom's own POIs are for the UK.
They advertise the units as having "thousands of POIs" but as soon as you find out how bad they are and complain, they blame the Map Makers and say it's nothing to do with them.
If pressed, they will say "well if you don't like ours, use some of the third party ones around".
But if you ever have a problem with how the TomTom handles those third-party ones, they will then wash their hands of THAT by saying "we don't support third party add-ons". |
