pocketgpsworld.comIf you're reading this anywhere other than the US then all you can do is salivate and hope that either Dash or some other manufacturer over this side of the pond wakes up!

We first covered Dash and their prototype navigation system at CES in Las Vegas some two years ago. It's now been available on the market for a while and reviews and real world user experiences beginning to filter through are all positive. So what's so new about this device?

The Dash Express incorporates both a wireless network capability AND cellular connectivity. It will automatically search for local wireless networks using its internal high-gain antenna and can use both wireless and cellular networks concurrently. It can search the internet for addresses and POIs, you can send new POIs and addresses to it wirelessly and it gathers traffic data from other Dash units to create a live traffic situation map.

None of these features are ground breaking when viewed alone but the experience as a whole makes the unit a truly ground breaking design. Imagine a TomTom or Garmin that could poll Google for an address or that could gather data from EVERY other TomTom or Garmin to get a live traffic overview?

Instead of 3D mapping and larger screens this is what drivers REALLY want, the only draw-backs over here are the much higher cellular data charges but an this could easily be over come if they negotiated. So some on Garmin, TomTom, ALK, Navman etc etc, pull your fingers out! or better still, Dash, let us have a go!
