Hi all,

I've just sold my TToneV2 to a friend which has allowed me to run and get a new Go720 - I'm very happy.

I have still got the back up of my old 'One' on my computer and would like to copy/import my favorites on to the 720. Can this easily be done?

Thanks

Roger.

The file that has all your favourites and other settings like POI's is "MapSettings.cfg".

It will be in your maps folder, I am not sure however if the copy you have is compatible with the 720, so make sure that you have a full back up preferably using windows explorer not TomTom Home.

I think some people reported problemd with TTS after importing mapsettings.cfg from previous versions.

I may be wrong (I often am, I bought RDS-TMC twice after all.....)

I am more than happy to accept I could be wrong as I am not familiar with earlier version compatibility.

But, as long as a full backup is done, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Dave

And aint the RDS-TMC a fantasic bit of kit? Laughing Out Loud

Having said that I did copy my .cfg from a GO300 V4 firmware to a GO520 V7 firmware without any probs.

If you have a copy of the MapSettings.cfg file on your PC you can open it with POIEdit, available here and save your favorites as a new POI file.

Be aware that MapSettings.cfg also contains your recent destinations as well as your favorites, POIEdit will allow you to delete the entries that you don't want before you save your POI file.

There ARE issues with using a MapSettings.cfg from a non-TTS capable machine (eg a Go300) in a TTS-capable one (eg a Go720)
That's exactly what I did and I lost all the speech recognition.

So, either backup your existing Mapsettings file then use the old file just to get the favourites off it and save them temporarily as POIs, then replace it with the new one again,
or use POI Edit as suggested above to make a temporary POI category of them and then convert them back.

Conversion is done on the machine laboriously one by one, (Add POI / from Favourite or Add Favourite / from POI)

Thanks again for the replys

I think I'm going to play it safe and start entering them all again

Roger.

(Still confused why the shops are selling 720 £10 cheaper than the 520!!)

There's no potrential problems if you go by the POI Edit route... It's a useful program to have around anyway.
