I have a big problem, the map has corrupted on my card after updating the camera database. I tried to use the back up I had but that failed.
Ended up formatting the card and am going to copy a friends, however I have a feelingthis may not work.
Any suggestions please. |

Hi, If you don't have a FULL WINDOWS EXPLORER BACKUP, then there is nothing you can do, especially as you have formatted the SD card. TomTom HOME does not backup the TomTom correctly, leaves things out. Have you got a windows explorer backup? if not, you will have to phone TomTom, I think they will re-install everything on your original card if you send it, and your TomTom to them, but I think they will charge you to do it. A friends Map/card, will not work, as the maps are tied to one device only. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav |

Not necessarily, Tanda....
It MAY leave bits out! (the worst problem was with the Text to Speech voices folder, but that won't be there anyway on a ONE). Most recent ones will be OK.
'a15cro'... Tell us more about how the backup was made and how it failed to restore, and someone may be able to help.
Shame you formatted the card BEFORE asking here!

OK, well I backed it up using the Tomtom disc supplied so I have a file with the tomtom folders in on my pc.
I tried to update my camera database which I have done a million times but also tried to be a smart arse and put some new POI's on as well.
I did not back it up this time and I now I should have.
When I turned it back on it said a map was not found. I tried to copy the backed up file over bit it said the original on the machine was corrupted.
So I decided to format the card and copy all the folders over, now the tomtom will not recognise anything and gives a symbol that the card is not inserted.
Just an extra question this time, these SD cards that are all pre loaded on Ebay, if I buy one of those will it woprk in my machine? It says it will. |

Re the friends map/card, providing it is the same version map that you had and if you backup on the PC still has the "mapname.meta.dct" file you should be able to get it working again. the .dct file is the license key for your device so providing you mate had the exact map version that was on your one just replace his .dct file with your backup. |

Don't give up if that doesn't work.
It's still quite possible that you have a good copy of your maps on the computer. That's the important bit, everything else can be got from elsewhere.
If the other solution doesn't work, come back and we'll try to lead you through it (although I won't... I'm off on hols for a few days) |

The friends card is no go at the minute!!!!! She has took the huff with my missus! Bad timing eh?
Well been through my backed up files and may have discovered another problem.
I used to update the camera database on hers as well so I have a couple of backed up versions saved, to top it off I have also updated my bro-in-laws V2 tomtom so I have his back up as well.
Oh I wish I had not formatted that card now.
I am watching a card on Ebay, says it will work on all toms, ayone confirm this please. Might just be as easy to buy this and back up properly next time. |

Buy software on eBay and you're likely to get ripped off.
If it's cheap, WHY is it cheap?
I just went to the TomTom Mapshop and you can put "ONE 2nd Edition" in the drop down box and you are offered v715 as a download or v710 on SD card (Both the same price, so it's your choice if you want a "free card" or the newer maps).
That's if you don't want to try any more suggestions for getting yours going again? |

Well, I seem to have made some progress. Borrowed a v2 card and copied it to my SD had to leave the Home instalation prog off but my card now boots ok and displays the 'no maps found' message.
So now I have software on my card again. Just seem to need a map.
The original V2 card operates fine and also shows a map on my V1.
Hope I have explained this clearly.
Any ideas please? |

What size is the map you are copying to the card and what capacity card are you using? - if its only just slightly too large you can drop some of the files from the voices folder to increase storage space - but ask first when you know the answer to the question above - Mike |

Once you have got the SD card size sorted out, you need to try getting your own map folder back from one of those backups. There's no point in trying to access your mate's map.
There's every chance that map is OK, tell us what happens.
If not you'll need to buy and download a new map. |
