|
|
Hi,
I bought a Medion 96770 sat nav from Aldi Yesterday. It came preloaded with camera sites but the database on this site is much better.
I have downloaded and installed POI Warner and deleted the existing camera database that came with the unit.
POI warner as I said is now installed on the sat nav (full version not lite) and it comes with a program that runs on your PC to install POI's. However this only links to 2 german sites and I think you need to pay for camera updates each month.
Please can someone tell me which files I need to download from this site and how to install them?
Many thanks

HI, Yes it does use those files but you need a freeware programe to convert the ov2 to an asc file. I've got these files loaded in the POIWarner Pois file.
POIwarner runs ok and I've selected it to warn of all the different cameras but it just doesnt warn of any cameras. If you look at the map there are no icons either.
The only thing it does do is when you approach a camera a red bar appears on the left of the screen. Its like a LED level meter on a stereo system. The bar gets longer the closer you get to the camera.
I've installed everything as described on this site..

But it just aint working!
Thanks

Why not just download the asc files rather than the ov2's straight off then?
"Other - ASC" is one of the listed versions. |

Don't think there was any .asc files when I did the web site (that was back in 2004/5 - they had to be converted back then).
I have also had this issue with the icons not displaying. For some reason they need to be saved in an 8 Bit format. I just used PaintShop Pro to convert them, and they now work OK.
From my other post on the forum:
QUOTE
I purchased this new Medion MD96770 from Aldi for my wife.
It works OK. The map is more up to date than her old Garmin StreetPilot as would be expected. The Menus are very easy to navigate, and it locks on to the sats very quickly, even in the house.
I also purchased POI-Warner for it which again works. BUT, I do have an issue using my own .wav files with it. The program is POI-Warner for GoPal Navigator ME 4
I am trying to use the same files that work OK with my Medion MD95000 PDA using Medion Navigator 4 with POI-Warner.
It is strange that it will play the default Windows .wav files from the Windows directory on the unit (no matter which I try), but not my own.
Have tried placing them also in the Windows directory as well as on the SD card. POI-Warner can select them, but they do not play when there should be a warning where as the default Windows ones will !
Have tried saving them in various formats, but still no joy.
Any body else had this issue, and if so did you find the answer

Thanks for your help.
I've found that the converted files dont work but if you download the .asc files from this database they work fine.
I also downloaded the sounds/warnings from your site and they dont work. I just get a 'ping'. After some more head scratching I think this is because your files are 16 bit and poi-warner needs 8-bit sound (.wav) files. Any ideas how to convert them?
I'm getting there slowly!
Thanks

Best free sound editor is "Audacity", which can convert between ogg and wav, alter sample frequencies, bit depth etc. with its hands tied behind its back
Slightly odd menus - you don't "save as...", you "export as"

I've converted the files to 8 bit just using windows media player.
Everything seems to be working now. Well it does in route demo mode. I'll try it for real tommorrow.
I dont know much about sat nav systems but I didnt think it would take me so long to get it all up and running.
Thanks for everyones help. I'll add some more camera points to the data base when I work out how to do it. Especially the place where I got 3-points a few months ago! |

I have converted the sound files using Audio Cleaning Lab to 8 Bit format.
Sound files now working OK.
All icons and sound files now sorted.
Summary:
Icon files need to be 22 x 22 pixels and saved as an 8 Bit format with the
.bmp file type.
eg: gatso.bmp (or whatever you call yours) etc.
Sound files again are saved as an 8 Bit format with the .wav file type.
eg: gatso.wav etc.
POI-Warner requires the files in those formats to work in this version.

Just for completeness... do they need to be 8-bit ogg format or 8-bit wav format? |

They need to be in wav format.
Just make a folder of any name you like and put the wav files in there. When selecting sound files POIWarner searches the whole flash drive for all wav files.
BTW I've tested the unit today and it is working fine
My only complaint is that when choosing a postcode as a destination you cant also enter the house number. Which for long streets maybe a problem.
Thanks

As Simon says above
I have edited my original post summary above to show what formats are required for both icon and sound files. |
