Hi all,
I've created an "Airfields" POI file, which expands on the "Airports" file in your list but have a problem, or two...
1: I have to zoom in very close to see the POI symbols on the map, is there a way of making them show at lesser zoom levels?
2: There are 99 records in my file but you can only scroll about 52 of them, going from the closest to some 180 miles away. The others can be accessed by typing the name. Is this normal behaviour, or have I got something wrong?
3: Can you get a POI file into Mapsource as it would be easier to check the accuracy on a large screen?
Cheers

Hi and welcome.
1) This is normal for Garmins and can't be changed.
2) Garmins usually only show the 50 (or so) closest POIs to your current location. To see others you need to set your Location to somewhere else and then you'll see the 50 closest to that location.
3) Not sure. |

Thanks Paul,
That explains it.
Is there an easy way to check the accuracy of POI's, other than scrolling round them all on the GPS?

You can view pois on a map by using utilities such as POI Edit, and thee are utilities to convert them to waypoints for progs like MS Autoroute and Google Earth. |

Hi Andy
POI Edit was a big help, although it did reformat the .csv file in a minor way, probably not a major problem.
Why are POI Lat and Lon the "other" way round to those used in the likes of Memory-Map?
Can you give some hints as to where to find the "convert to waypoint" utilities please?
Cheers

The 2 examples Andy gave are
1) MS Autoroute - you have to buy this. Search online or look in shops selling software.
2) Google Earth - Use Google to search for "Google Earth". It's a free download. |

Well, MM uses Latitude then Longitude as does Autoroute, whereas POI files the order is Longitude then Latitude.

Google Earth and Autoroute are no problem, I was just wondering what the utilities are to do the conversions?
Cheers

Don't think it really matters as long as they are both there....

POIConverter, from out very own Oldie will probably fit the bill. _________________ Richard

POI Edit saves in lots of formats including .kml for Google Earth, MoiMap, Destinator, Garmin, iGo, Navman etc. and some formats that Autoroute can import directly. |
