Tomtom 510 with latest software downloaded and latest version of ‘home’ on my pc
I have just downloaded the POI file from ShellUk of all their petrol stations in the UK. Can somebody please let me know, for someone who has a very limited technical knowledge of computers and tomtom workings how to get the file (and bitmap image file) from my desktop to my tomtom – Thanks!

Connect the TomTom to the PC and if Home starts up shut it down as its not required for this.
Start up Windows Explorer and you will see a drive letter with the name of TomTom adjacent to it, click this to open the drive then loacte your map folder it will be named something like "UK & ROI plus major roads of Europe" you need to click that to open it.

Now locate your POI file, it will comprise of an .ov2 file (the data) and a .bmp file (the icon) - select both of these, right click and select "Copy" from the pop up.
Go back to your open map folder and position the mouse in the folder, right click and select "Paste" - Mike

A couple of things to add...
1. You then need to "enable" it if you want it to show up on your map and navigating view. you do that in the preferences menu. "Show POI on map".

2. Did you know you can download POIs for all the UK petrol stations from this site? See this page:
