Hi All,
I am sure someone here can help, if it has not already been addressed.
While out walking today I got to a point where I needed a 10 minute stop for coffee etc. I laid my Active 10 down and admired the views while eating my lunch. When I had finished and packed away everything I checked my location and where I needed to head and found that the red trail that is laid out behind me had wondered about while I was stationary.
Is there any way to stop this happening or is it a Software issue!!
Hope to hear back from someone soon,
Regards,
Richard (YASACK) Forster[/b] |

One of the consequences is that the trip data regarding "time moving" versus "time overall" is unreliable and therefore, so is the moving/overall average speed. If you are keen to get accurate moving average data, it's best to switch the unit off, or at least stop and restart the trip data when not travelling. |

But my Tom Tom doesn't 'drift'. GPS position shown is very stable. ?? |

The basic GPS position will be drifting a little - they all do it. However TT may be pulling a few tricks to prevent displaying this..
The first is that all car sat navs tend to "lock to centre line" - that is - because you are travelling in a car (or other road vehicle) it naturally assumes you are on a road - so if your position is calculated as being a short distance off (a few meters) - it "corrects" it to be on the road. If the slight movement is up and down the road you are on then it may be possible to see this - check the GPS speedo reading when stationary for several minutes - it may show a low speed from time-to-time.
I don't know if TT sat navs do this but some GPS receivers have a mode (static wandering) that causes them to display the same position for very slow movements. This is fine for car navigation but is a PITA for walking, as the position updates are infrequent due to slow speeds attained. _________________ Phil |

I had not noticed any lunchtime drift until today when I switched off the machine and then on again (it appeared to need a reboot as it was not repainting the map) and it then reported that I had wandered about 100m during the exercise.
I assume this was some aberration while it was re-locking to the satellites.
Did you switch off or might the machine have lost signal (put under a rucksack?) during lunch? _________________ LostMike
