Hi All
Sorry I have posted for a while but I have been a bit busy looking foir a job!!!
The link up with VM and Navigon will only happen to start with in France as far as I am aware.
I am off to start a new Job soon so will post any updates I can to the site to help any VM users before I leave.

Welcome back Stu, and for a starter, there has been some disquiet about the option for the two year sub for updates being removed from the VM site. Could you cast any light on that and say if the option is still available and will it be honoured if it is. I am sure we all wish you the very best for your new job. _________________ Gee-Pee

Unfortunately I think I can answer this - I asked VM support yesterday about Advantage and they have confirmed the offer is now withdrawn. I have replied asking when the Navigon takeover will occur and if they might have any plans for mapping deals. I wasn't at all hopeful even before Stu's latest! _________________ David

Any idea on what is happening for people who have already paid? Are they to honour the updates or give us our money back? |

Hi Everyone
Firstly Navigon is NOT taking over VM - There is a gentlemans agreement to use some VM content in the Navigon product but that is all. This will start in France where Navigon hope they can use it to pick up some of the VM market share there and may migrate to other countries later.
As for the 2 yr updates I can now confirm that these wont continue. Anyone who has signed up WILL get a full refund and a free gift (Not sure what yet as I havent been told).
As for other updates , the info below is the offical statement I have been given to share:
ViaMichelin accelerates the development of its
on-line travel assistance services.
ViaMichelin is focusing its efforts and its expertise on two areas: the
Internet offering and the provision of travel and tourism content and
information across a range of digital media including mobile telephone and
GPS systems.
ViaMichelin’s stated objective is to facilitate travel and mobility by providing its travel assistance services, renowned for their richness of content and reliability, to the greatest number of consumers as possible.
ViaMichelin will continue to build partnerships in the on-line, automotive,
mobile telephony and GPS sectors to ensure its travel support services are
widely available across a broad range of digital media.
The ViaMichelin website, as well as the company’s on-line geolocation
services for business, which are at the core of ViaMichelin strategy, will
keep evolving the first half of 2008, with an expanded range of services
and even broader geographic coverage planned. With traffic figures of up to 2 million visits per day, ViaMichelin is the leading travel information website in Europe. Although ViaMichelin will continue to market its current GPS devices, it will not launch any new ranges.
ViaMichelin will continue to support existing and future customers by
maintaining the 2-year warranty, as well as offering online support, postsales service and safety camera updates.
Safety Camera Locations & The Michelin Guide
Safety camera locations will continue to be updated regularly and
made available for download from www.viamichelin.com.
ViaMichelin also offers its on-line customers free download updates
for the Michelin Guide 2008.
Traffic Information
ViaMichelin will continue to provide its traffic information service in France
and remain compatible with the ITIS service in the UK and free services in
Belgium, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.
Owners of ViaMichelin GPS devices with traffic information will therefore
continue to receive the same level of traffic information service as today.
The Maintenance of ViaMichelin GPS devices
ViaMichelin will continue to offer a telephone helpline and honour the
guarantee conditions of its products for 2 years from the customer’s date of purchase.
Accessories such as mounting units, power adaptors and cigarette lighter
chargers will still be available from ViaMichelin (see www.viamichelin.com).
If you have any further questions about the above please buzz me - I will try to answer when I can!!
I am off to help launch another Brand in the UK (Or maybe re-launch is a better way of saying it) and will always be here. I will change my contact email to my home one and still be available on MSN to those who use it. Once I have started my new role I will post the details for you all.
I have all sorts of bits and bobs left over from VM so if anyone breaks something or needs assistance I will still help where I can.
Cheers

Cheers Stu. Thanks for the info.
I still find it such a shame that VM have decided to pull out of the market, although the way I read the information is that the guide could be made available for other GPS units
Although I love my x980t, it maybe time to look at some of the newer units coming out this year. I'm a gadget freak and love new toys and nothing new is forthcoming from VM I will have to move on
All the best in your new role, I'm sure you maybe on here again soon to tell us who your now working for. It's not the AA or RAC decided to give GPS another go |

Don't keep us in suspense too long, some of us may switch if you give the same level of support .
I thought that RAC had stopped to be honest. The GPS pages are nearly hidden on the RAC site, but they still look to be just re-badged Route 66 units. |

Stu, I take it that all software development, including error corrections/enhancements to Version 7, has ceased as well? _________________ David

Unless Stu says otherwise I would think we are stuck with the software as is.
Have to admit I have been looking around at other GPS units and not really found one I like yet. I did like the look of the Garmin 800 units until I saw the £500-£600 price tags. What on earth are they thinking. Are they made from solid gold? I would want a lifetime of free map updates and software for that amount of money.
Stu - Maybe you could tell us what was planned for v8 of the software to make us even more miserable |

It was in the news that Michelin made 35% more profit or 774 mil. euro. Despite that they gonna close the factory in Toul and put 826 people on the street. What kind of a company is that? |
