Posted: Tue Feb 12, 2008 2:39 pm Post subject: WARNING: TomTom HOME File Sharing - Please Read |
|
|
Points of Interest files (POIs) obtained from PocketGPSWorld.Com may not be offered/shared via Tomtom HOME's new service. This includes our Safety Camera database and any POIs downloaded from our site.
TomTom will block any attempt to offer our safety camera database via HOME and we can track other POIs obtained from us and identify the source member.
We have invested considerable time and effort in creating these files and maintaining them and sharing via HOME simply dilutes the work we do without granting us any credit whatsoever.
We will report any files being shared this way for removal and can identify the member responsible. This applies to any POI files obtained from us including safety cameras as well as voice files. It also includes any cursors hosted by us that are not your own work.
Please do not share our data in this way. Support PocketGPSWorld and the work we do by ensuring we remain the only source of our data. _________________ Darren Griffin

Does that also mean any custom cursors we have created and uploaded to PocketGPSWorld for others to download? _________________ Graham.

No, we don't hold or claim any copyright over cursors made by anyone other than ourselves and so I'll edit the initial post to clarify that. Our POIs are different, we compile and author the data and so do claim ownership of the completed works.
But for anyone considering such sharing you may only offer cursors, POIs, voices etc that are your own work. HOME is already full of files that TomTom users have shared despite not having the right to do so. This is something we have grave misgivings about. We have taken steps to protect the camera database from being shared but our other POIs are already being exploited without any credit to us and against our explicit terms of use.
It is the lack of proper safeguards to protect the rights of owners that concerns us. Personally I would rather everyone boycotted the service completely but that decision is of course entirely yours to make. _________________ Darren Griffin
