Hi,
Just joined, so please bear with me if If I'm asking what appears to be a stupid question.
I've looked through some posts, and one of my questions that I was going to ask has already been asked / answered by another poster, that being can I subscribe to PGPSW camera database even though I have a "old" sat nav ie a three year old Tom Tom Go 300.
If I'm reading it right, I can, and the PGPSW will work on my old tom tom unit.
My other question, which I still need answered (sorry if it's answered elsewhere, but I did look through many posts) is to ask how the PGPSW camera database differs from the one tom tom offer. I appreciate that a limitation of my tom tom unit is that warnings will be made regardless of what side of the road the camera is on, however I don't know how (if) the PGPSW database is different / better / more modern than the tom tom one?
Please can someone shed some light on this, as I'm happy to sign up and pay PGPSW, would just like an idea as to how it rates versus the tom tom one?

Hi, Yes it has been answered before, but this site is so big, you can easily miss it. The general opinion is, the one from this site is:-
1/ Better
2/ Has more cameras
3/ Includes Mobiles
4/ Is customisable, ie, set your own warning distance, and sound, or verbal(Spoken) warnings, "Warning Gatso at 30 MPH ahead" etc
5/ Is cheaper
6/ Is updated Monthly, quite often, Twice a month.
It tells you most of what you need to know about updating and installing the database, and how to install the voice warnings, and most important, how to do a FULL WINDOWS EXPLORER backup, BEFORE you start fiddling with your TomTom. Finally, if your not sure what database to use, I use the Speed Zoned (OV2) with voice warnings. As for setting the distances, look here
Towards the bottom is a chart with time against distance, but I would at least double the distance for mobiles. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav

I have used the GPS world cameras on a tomtom 500 with voice warning they work very well !!
I recently bought a tomtom 520 and the tomtom speed camera data base is in my opinion is not in the same class !!! downloading and installing the pocketgpsworld camera data base was very easy following the instructions on this site and to confirm what the above posts have said Back up in explorer !! do not rely just on Tomtom home for your backup !!
If you do have a problem with downloading just ask for help everybody on here really very helpful

At some stage, you're going to need to know what version of the TT Application and maps you are running (latest App is 7.xxx and latest map is 715.xxxx).
Tap the signal strength bar at the bottom right ...

Wow, I'm amazed by the speed and quality of the replies, thanks for taking the time to point me in the right direction, it's very much appreciated.
Sounds like it's a no brainer, and I will be signing up to PGPSW, as well as telling my friends and collegues about this site (I only found it yesterday, as a work collegue suggested I check it out - I'm glad she did)

Craig, I've held off replying as I'm bound to be biased! We set up the database long before TomTom copied the idea and we're very proud of the systems we have in place both to record reports submitted by users and most importantly to ensure their accuracy.
TomTom saw this as an easy way to make a quick buck but have found that it is far more difficult than it at first appears! Their database is almost laughably poor in many respects but if you do choose us you will find both a friendly forum where any issues will be resolved quickly but more importantly a concise and accurate (as far as is possible!) database that can be customised to suit your preference. _________________ Darren Griffin

And just in passing ... You posed your first question 12 hours ago. If you had sent it to TomTom instead, you could be assured of a first reply by Friday night (I won't say that you could NOT be assured that the reply would be helpful, because I'm a sweetie). _________________ Dennis
Okay cokey, paid my subs, downloaded the file, and the voices too, and got it all installed - will give it a go on the roads tomorrow.
Cheers for all the info and links, I doubted that I'd be able to do it all without asking questions, however forums and help on the site is brill, with step by step guides and FAQ's etc - very smart.

Another thing we forgot to mention. No need to go out driving...
You can check the camera alerts are working by running a "demo route".
Go to "A-B Advance Planning" (v6 software) or "A-B Prepare a route" (v7), set up a route past a camera or two, then when it has calculated it, go to "Details" / "Demo Route".
Set it to less than 300% speed and the alerts should all work as normal.
