I've recently purchased and downloaded v7.1 of the TT W&CE map. However when I try to install it via home I get the message 'invalid archive'.

In my d/l folder I've got map/westerncentraleurope/ which is where Home is looking. The folder contains a map installation cab dile, two map gif files, a W&CE toc file and a 1.988,725kb zip file. The zip file has a meta file, a pna file and several data files. The dowmload drive on my PC has 10.5 gig free and the TT910 11.6 gig free.

Any suggestions greatfully received

Maybe the download went wonky. Download it again (you've got lots of time! and you can download it for a year). I'm a bit surprised by you saying "when I try to install it via home" - these days the download is via Home and it automatically starts to install it after the download finishes - have you updated Home to latest version (2)?

Thanks for the reply Dennis, but for the life of me I can't see where on Home or the TT website I can download it again. Amazing really when you consider how user friendly and efficient TT makes everything!

Can you or somebody point me in the right direction to try the download again. The previous d/l appears to be ok, but I'll try again. I use McAfee, which has never caused me a problem before but there agains its TomTom. Has anyone needed to switch off there anti virus program.

Some virus and firewalls have been known to cause trouble during downloads. You might be better to switch them off or to the lowest settings. If you want to download the map again then move the existing map out of the downloads folder and put it somewhere else and then go to update my go in TT Home and you will be offered the map to download again.

When you click on "Update my device" (as when getting QuickGPS Fix or mapshare updates), you should be offered the download again (and again, and again, and again, for a year after you first buy the map).

Before that, you might like to go to the download you already have and change its name temporarily so TT Home doesn't see it.

I have NEVER EVER switched off my Firewall and/or Anti Virus. When TomTom once suggested I do so, I was quite rude to them. Spam is bad enough, viruses and suchlike I need like a hole in the head and they can get into my PC quicker than I can switch controls back on again.

Still really strange! I moved the previous d/l to another folder, this gave me the option of downloading again. This I did, and after the d/l was complete, I clicked the install button and after a very short time was told installation was ok. Needless to say it wasn't. I have the d/l on my computer identified as v7x but still have only 6.5x on the TT. I'll have a go at phoning TT tomorrow if I have the patience, or just ask for my money back.

Could you run through the procedure for this please, I thought this wasn't possible with the new system.

Exit from HOME if it starts up and use Explorer.

Rather than delete you old map, just rename it. You have plenty of space.

Create a new Folder with the name Western_and_Central_Europe

Open the large zip File, 1.9GB, with Winzip.

Unzip the contents directly into the new Folder.

Open the .cab File with Winzip and unzip the contents directly to the new Folder.

Use Safely Remove Hardware and it should reboot.

Don't forget to Back it up. Smile

Thanks for the guide, but it's still driving me up the wall!
I renamed the original folder Old_Western_and_Central_europe, coied/extracted the files as you suggested and rebooted. It asked me to select a map, I chose Western Europe, and it is still using 6.5, showing it in the renamed folder. is there some key file it searches for that I need to delete/rename? All the cab file seemed to contain was a *.meta.dct file

May I ask a question, please? When you say 'it is still using 6.5...', where exactly are you seeing this version? If you go to the newly created map folder, you'll find a file with the extension of .pna. Open it with Notepad, it will show map version and Build.

The point is that the 910 isn't seeing, or choosing not to use the newly created folder, but instead is using the original folder which has`been renamed Old_* That's the bit I can't understand

I have seen another post similar to this a few weeks ago and everything was so indepth the problem was as simpe as he was on v6.xx application and not the latest v7.xx which it needs to be for the v710 maps to operate. Just want to make sure you are running the latest application of TomTom.

Yes I am running the latest app.

HAs anyone done a succesful manual install of the latest maps after d/l via home?

Also, is there anyone kind enough to let me have a list of files and sizes the d/l should produce

Many thanks

Malcolm
