Hi all,
I have updated my 720 and added some POI's. It does not seem to have appreciated this as it will not boot now. TThome comes upwith error message 'devicenavcoreversion missing'. First time I have messed with it and I have killed it!!!

Any help gratefully recieved as how to get it up and running again.

cheers Tubbs Confused

Restore from a backup?

Hi there, back again

have tried a restore, it went through the motions and the screen(TThome) said restore complete. i restarted my 720 and we still have the same problem. when it tries to boot,i get the tomtom startup picture then a picture of my tomtom with a green background.

It then comes upwith an SD icon, but this goes and an icon for a hard-drive appears along with a progress bar along the bottom of the screen and a big red cross that disappears when the progress bar has completed its trip across the screen.

hope this helps somebody realise how to fix this

thanks in anticipation

First, make a proper backup:
1. Connect the TomTom to the PC
2. Close Home if it opens
3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the new Hard Drive that Windows will have called the TomTom's storage.
4. When you can see the contents of the TT's storage (a long list of files and folders) in the right hand side of the Explorer window, go to the Edit Menu and "Select all", then "copy"
5. Go back to your desktop and right click on an empty space.
6. Select "New Folder" and give the folder a name (Something like "TT backup_{and today's date}")
7. Right click on the new folder and select "paste"

You should now have completed a "Full Windows Explorer Backup". These are "better" than ones made by Home.

Now to DELETE the existing software

1. Browse back to the TomTom's storage in Windows Explorer
2. Find the files (probably at the bottom of the list) that are NOT in any folders. There will be about 30-40 with names like "data.chk" and "system" and "ttsystem".
3. Select ALL of those files that are NOT in yellow folders (click on the first in the list then SHIFT-click on the last one to highlight them all) IMPORTANT: The folders with their content must NOT be selected.
4. Now right click in that selected section and choose "delete"

You have now deleted the original system files from the TT.

Now to replace it

1. Run Home and wait for it to recognise the TT.
2. Go to "Update my Device"
3. Home will now do one of two things. If you have already updated the software on your device, Home will attempt to reinstall the latest version from where it is stored on your PC. If you haven't, it will attempt to download it and install it from the internet.

'required parameter navcoreversion missing' again.
somehow I have made it very ill...

Any more ideas gratefully accepted

So you have DELETED all the loose files from the Go itself, and you are still getting that message?

Ahh, light maybe dawns... Have you got an SD card in the slot?
If so, remove it and do the whole delete/ reinstall again.
Next, are you using Home v2.2 and I presume you have been selecting "internal memory when Home starts up?
If not, you'll need to install Home v2.2 before you can do anything else.

OK my last shot...

Remove any SD card.

Go into TomTom Home and click on file / exit.

Now go into My Documents on your PC / TomTom / Home / Downloads / Program (or wherever you have Home set to store its downloads). Delete everything that is in this folder.

Connect the TT to the PC and delete all the loose files from the TT internal memory again (as you did above)

Now start TomTom Home again and click on update my GO. This will force Home to download a fresh copy of the software.

Just out of interest, what is the pretty picture?

As far as I know the normal startup picture is one of those "loose" files (splashw.bmp), so if you've deleted them all, you shouldn't get it.

Ah.. OK. That's hard coded into the device. For a minute I thought you meant a real pretty picture like the road with the signpost and the clouds start-up pic.

I think I'm going to have to pass this to someone else for a while, see if they can crack what we're missing.

If you have deleted ALL the loose Files on the Device, HOME should not report that it is up-to-date, because there will be nothing there for it to read.

Have you removed the SD Card, if you have one?

Hi Richard,

have just checked again and all of the loose files are gone, only folders left.

Just tried again and again it said device up to date

still getting the message

[b][u]Unplug your tomtom device

A new application has been installed on your device recently. Please click 'Disconnect your device' in the device menu.

Unplug your tomtom device from your computer and switch it on.

Connect your tomtom device to your computer again.

Can I just go back to the original message i was getting-

'devicenavcoreversion missing' in tomtom home.

hope all this helps, btw, dont have SD card in and not had one in, if that makes a difference.

thanks for your time

Cheers Tubbs

Sorry.....just a bit hard to follow what has and hasn't been tried. Have you tried a reset with a paperclip?
