Can someone help, i have currently have a tom tom go. software version 4.420.
it has no postcode search, i would like to update this software to some thing which has postcode search and speed camera software etc, Has someone done this and if so what software used. Would tom tom 5 work on my tomtom go. |

Hi aks72 and welcome to the forum.
What type of GO do you have? The software updactes are free using TT Home and what version of map do you have.

If you are using V4.42 you must have a Classic GO. Your Maps must be quite old also.
The Speed Camera Database can be used on any version of TT.
The Full Postcode usage came in with V5 software.
Version 5, 6 and 7 will all work on your Device.
I don't think Maps that are that old will work with the latest software, (I do stand to be corrected), so you might have to get newer Maps.
Incidentally the Postcode Files came with the Maps, rather than the Software.

Wow v4! That's old...
It should be able to run on ANY software, but you'll be hard pushed to find v5 now.
Various archived versions of v6 are available on people's websites (eg Oldboy of these forums), but TomTom's preferred method is now to use TomTom's "Home" utility, downloadable from their website.
It seems that the latest version of Home v2.2) has difficulty updating the software on old machines, so the way to do it is to use Home v1.5 or v1.6 (which you can get from HERE. Use the link on the right for the v1 version.
As for the question of whether the map will still work, I think you need to ring TomTom for advice on that first (0845 161 0009 Monday - Friday: 08:00 to 20:00 GMT (every first Tuesday of the month: 09:00 to 20:00 GMT))
Once you've done that you can start thinking about the postcode search (again you need files downloaded from the TomTom website but there are a few things we need to check, so ask again when you are ready to install them) and the camera database (either from TomTom - £20 a year or here - vastly better and £19 a year) |
