|
|
So, finally got around to trying to put some mp3's on my (formatted) SanDisk 4 gig Ultra II card. I have a folder on the card called 'mp3' (no quotes and all lower case). I can play the mp3 I put in it using Media Player and TomTom certainly sees the file and lists it properly regarding Artist, Album, etc.
But, when I try to play it using the unit, I get the error shown in the subject line. I have tried a reset -- no cure.
Any thoughts? |

Try this experiment:
Put one .mp3 into the 'mp3' folder of the internal memory rather than the SD card, and leave the card out when you start the TT.
If that plays you'll know it is a card-related problem. If it doesn't, you'll know there is a problem with the mp3 itself. |

That's what I tried, Andy. The mp3 on the internal doesn't give an error when I try to play it, the unit just reverts back to the opening screen (i.e, showing the car icon and where I am).
So, indeed, it seems the issue is with the mp3 functionality itself
Do you (or anybody) have any idea what file or files are necessary for the functionality of the mp3 to work and in which folder (or root) these required files should be?
I'm wondering whether when I needed to do serious file stripping to get my NA map to fit within the 2 gig limit of the TT 720 internal memory, that I was a little too, uh, rigorous, in my deletions.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. |

I'm afraid I don't know of any files that would help. I'd assumed the jukebox functionality was all buried in the main program.
Just to absolutely convince me its not the mp3s or what you're doing with them, can you try downloading this song:
http://www.hitestrecords.com/mp3/GoodFriend-BestFriend-08-Blis.mp3
(chosen only because it's free and it's short!)
and putting it straight into the "mp3" folder of the Go itself (and take the sd card out completely. Does that work? (I just downloaded it straight onto the TomTom as it was plugged in at the time). |

Thanks for the time you've taken, Andy. I dl the file and put it in the mp3 folder on my unit. Jukebox now (correctly) sees 2 items there, the one I was using yesterday and 'Blis' which you provided.
Unfortunately, the same result: I highlighted Blis and the screen immediately reverted to my location screen.
I have an email into Support. We'll see what happens. I'm half tempted to reset to factory settings .... but am holding off for now. |

Problem Solved!!
It turns out I, being both anal and a Virgo (or do both of those go together? ) did indeed wipe out too many files when getting my NA map to fit. A user in the US forum twigged me to the fact of copying back from the bin folder, the mp3d file located there. My bin file on the unit was empty!
p.s., Andy.......I like your taste in music, now that I can hear it!
now.......onto another screwup! |

It's not your fault... you can't (even though it says "Edit/Delete this post" if you hover the mouse over the "Edit" button.
The site duplicated one of my posts tonight too.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted, you were right all along.

I literally typed "mp3 test file" into Google - perhaps I should choose all my music like that!
PS why didn't you just put the "big" map on an SD card? |

You mean the one I went out and bought AFTER my 'stripping' exercise that took till 4:45 am on a work day? That one?
I swore, never again, my friend.
Live & learn.........
By the way, for aanybody reading this who might be new to TomToms. You see people here regularly imploring people when they are first starting out to make a complete (using Explorer, not TTHome) backup of the contents of their unit and put it in a safe folder on their HD or even burn to a CD. Well, it was because, for a change, I did something right that I had the file I needed in a backup.
I know I'm preaching to the choir for most here........but if I can save just one soul! sorry, getting carried away now. |
