It was working fine yesterday. I upgraded the operating system and had no problems at all. Left the unit on charge all night and this morning it won't turn on. I have the green power light on.

I have tried sticking a paper clip in the reset "hole" but nothing happens.

Any advice gratefully received

Regards

Is the Device still on the Mains Charger when you try to start it?

Is the Green Light on because you have it on Mains Power? Or does it come on when you Press the On/Off Button without the Mains Power?

Try it on, and off, the Mains Power.

Try it on the Windscreen Mount.

If you hold it to your ear, can you hear anything when you press the Reset?

The green light is only on when the unit is being charged.

I hear no sound when pressing the reset button.

I have tried starting the unit whilst being charged, whilst off charge, whilst on the cradle being charged and whilst on the cradle and not being charged.

Thanks

Have you tried it in the Car?

This might be a really lame suggestion, but isn't it the x10 series where the reset hole is SO small that a paper clip doesn't go in far enough?
Try a pin?

It is, but he has a 700 and I don't know if it suffers with the same problem.

I can feel the reset button "click" on the reset plate using a paper clip.

To be honest, this is my 3rd Satnav system, the navman 510 was crap at routing, a goodmans system was just crap and now the tomtom feels like a piece of crap.

Must get new glasses! Could have sworn it said 710.
And he DOES say "whilst on the cradle being charged and whilst on the cradle and not being charged. " The 700 doesn't have a cradle does it? (or do you mean the windscreen mount, vegnomeat?)

Anyway, two questions...
Is it a genuine TomTom charger? (You haven't used a 12V charger by mistake?)
Does anything happen if you connect to the PC with the usb cable and THEN hit the reset?

Its a genuine TT charger and I have tried the reset button whilst attached to the USB cable.

One point though, when attached to the USB cable should the green light be on ? Mine isn't.

The green light only indicates that there is an external power source applied to the Device. The x00 doesn't have USB Charging.

Try holding the reset button for at least thirty seconds while disconnected from all power sources, and then give the power button another try.

As Oldboy mentioned, using the active mount is also a surprisingly effective last-ditch effort to "jog" the x00 series into responding:
1. Connect the 700 to the mount
2. Plug the cigarette end into the lighter socket
3. Plug the "L" end into the MOUNT, not directly into the TomTom
4. Turn on the accessory power in your car and keep you fingers crossed.

I've had this happen with my 700 several times following various updates. With mine I have to reset the with the paperclip as suggested holding for several seconds, then as lame as it sounds when powering on I have to hold the power button in for something like 5 seconds and it then reboots. A normal press won't make the unit start!

Hope yours comes back to life!

Paul

Oh God yes... Possible really simple answer! With latest software you have to hold the power button on for at least three seconds before it switches on.

Holding the ON button was ALWAYS a cure for the 700, not just latest software. I sometimes used to hold mine pushed in until it actually powered up.

Nothing worked at all.

As I was working away in Ireland and really needed a satnav I purchased the TT One.

Guess what, it wouldn't turn on and the reset button wouldn't push in. Eventually I managed to get some life but am now stuck on a green screen that says "Success!!" Except that it is stuck on and won't turn on, or attache to a PC

Must be me
