|
|
Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to set a route in the nuvi 660 avoiding motorways?
The only options I have are:
Traffic
U-Turns
Major Roads
Unpaved Roads
Toll Roads
Ferries
Car Share Lanes
I assume that Major Roads would be the correct option but don't want to select that in case it also avoids dual carriageways as well.
Any help would be appreciated. |

You could try selecting it, then run a simulated route to see what happens...
I don't have an option to turn off "Major Roads" but i can turn off "Highways". If i do that it takes me on dual carridgeway such as the A217, A24 and A3 and the M25, M1 and M18.... so not sure whats going on there.... ![Shocked](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif)

Funny you should say that, I tried last night and it got stuck at the 1st roundabout it came to.
I was going to raise this separately but as we are on the subject, is there a way to increase the speed of the simulation as it seems very slow (almost in real time as if you were driving)
Thanks |

Only ever seen it on a TT. However on my i3 once you have a route calculated your can review the turns and see the turn by turn instructions at your own speed.... Page 8 of the Garmin 660 Owner Manual 1.5 Mb PDF |

Tried the avoid major roads option and the route I chose was a definite motorway route but with dual carriageways in the area.
Simulated it and it took me on the dual carriageways and not the motorway
Thanks for your help Paul. |

UPDATE
I've just received the following reply from Garmin (Europe) Ltd as I raised a support enquiry with them:
----------------
To your email below, if you won't to avoidance the motorways then you
will need to turn on magor road's but that will avoid carriageways as
well, there is not a setting just to avoid motorway only.
----------------
So, I tried another route with major roads avoided AND it didn't take the most obvious route on a dual carriageway - it took a route which was twice as long !
I assumed that avoiding motorways was a basic sat nav function but it appears not. |
