Hi all.

When I installed my TOMTOM 520T just after xmas, it downloaded numerous safety camera files. Went out to a known safety camera and sure enough, it was on there.

However, over the last week or two, I've notice it is no longer showing any cameras, ones that have been on the road for years. Is there something I should be turning on to get them to work?
How can I check if it is working?

If you go to the PLUS services icon which is the 3rd page of the menu, tap it then tap the SPEED CAM icon then you will see ENABLE CAMERAS, Tap it and you should start seeing the TT cameras. Wink

What might be the problem is you have'nt installed them yet. Check in TT Home in the Items on my computer and see if you see them there and it is a matter if selecting them from there to (add to device). If you have downloaded them they will be somewhere. Wink

That might be my fault then. I did'nt think you get a trial subscription, only that they were supplied with the units. Rolling Eyes

Even when the trial period has run out, the old files will still carry on working. My 720 came with the TT camera data on it when I bought it and I still switch them on occasionally for a laugh!

So, why aren't yours?

If you look in your map folder with Explorer, can you still see the files called things like "Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2"? I've got 3 similarly named files for the UK cameras.

No trial you get a free download the first time you connect to TT Home but no updates from then on unless you subscribe.

No, because what you have downloaded (or received on your machine when you bought it) will carry on working forever.

So Dave must have lost access to the files somehow.
Dave, check your map folder like I said above.
If the files are still there, we need to work out why the TT is not recognising them.

Hi guys.

OK. In folder -

C:\Users\Daddio\Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\map

I have GreatBritainandtheRepublicofIreland, nothing else.

In my -

C:\Users\Daddio\Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads

I have a safety camera file, which contains quite a few further folders all containing, amongst over file extensions, OV2 files.

And now to what I think went wrong. Everything was working fine. I had backed up all of my TT. Found a new map available and downloaded that, after saving the old map. I suspect the act of deleting the old map off the TT and loading the new one may have lost these OV2 files?

I guess the question is, how do I "install" them back onto the TT from my backup?

Sorry, should have made it clearer...

Connect the TT itself to the PC (shut down Home if it tries to run), then, using Windows Explorer, find the drive letter that the TT has been assigned and browse into it.
Are there any camera files with names like "Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2" in the map folder?
If not then try copying the ones from C:\Users\Daddio\Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\whatever your folder is called

Try just these three for now:

Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2
Safety_Cam_UK_TomTom.ov2.dct
Safety_Cam_UK_TomTomOv2.ver

Just select them / copy / go to your TT's map folder and paste.

(If you cannot see the three letter extensions then in Explorer (or My Computer) TOOLS / FOLDER OPTIONS / VIEW Tab /
In the "Advanced settings" section:-
UN-TICK "Hide extensions for known file types")

I'd luv to try that but..

Did a restore early from my backed up files. TT then downloaded an application update again, 22.7 mb, all OK. But cannot access TT from Home now as it says it needs a file and to try later. Run update again and it keeps downloading the same file!!

More worringly, my TT is now stuck on the splash screen. Won't power off. Hit the reset switch but the TT boots and sticks on the splash screen again. Crying or Very sad

I repeat... you don't need Home to access the TomTom.
It seems like you have larger problems, so getting it connected to the PC is even more important.

When you plug in the USB cable, the TT screen should ask if you "want to connect to computer"?
Does it do that?
