|
|
I apologise for bringing up a question that seems to have been answered in the past but in case things have changed i hope i can get some clarification on this.
My brother uses a TALEX gps device and recieved this e-mail from a reresentitive today.. True or false? or just old?
Quote"
Did you know that you can avoid being caught on SPECS speed
cameras just by CHANGING LANES half way between the two
cameras?
SPECS cameras work out your vehicles average speed by
calculating the time it took to drive between two camera
positions.
However, under Home Office rules, speeding prosecutions are
ONLY valid if a driver is filmed in the *SAME* lane from the
start to the finish of each section of road covered by the cameras.
According to "Speed Check Services", who produce the SPECS
cameras, the devices were approved by the Home Office in 1999,
passing strict tests for use in one lane at a time.
...HOWEVER, there was not enough time or finances to extend
Home office approval tests to cover the cameras' use over two or
three lanes at a time. "Unquote
Whats the lowdown on this? Thanks |

There has been much talk of the change lane loophole. None of it based on actual facts. Much of it is based on interpreting the approval document.
The fact is that the devices can monitor multiple lanes, what is at issue is whether this data is used or if the system weeds out the data where a vehicle has changed lanes to abide by the approval.
I certainly would not rely on this 'loophole' until a test case has proved that it exists!. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Don't forget also that where SPECS is used on roadworks sections, changing lanes is usually banned and can be a hazardous procedure. When you overtake me at high speed, pull into my braking distance and then hit your brakes I will get very upset.
