Oldboy writes that the POI limitation is a know problem and suggests the location to download third party lists. However, I've been unable to download any of these while combining subcategories into single category file in either Mac or PC using any of the recognised browsers - Explorer, Netscape, Firefox etc. I did succeed in downloading one subcategory file as a zip, but it crashed Stuffit each time I tried to open it. Any advice would be welcome. |

Oldboy is correct. Some of the POI subs are quite large though. You would be better to download 20-25 at a time and select the show link icon. After this to put all of them back into the same category use something like POI edit to combine them again. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

Thanks for the advice. Is there a limit to the number of POI files one can have on the TT ONE XL? |

There is limits though i am not sure what thet are for the ONEXL i think the x10 is around 107 3rd party POI's and the x20 is around 300 3rd party POI's. That also depends on if it is a W=CE or a GB mapping system. Someone will let you know soon on the ONEXL if they are different from these listed. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

If you try to Open it from within Stuffit it doesn't work.
Maybe a Mac oddity. _________________ Richard

V6 software on any machine =100 maximum user POI categories
V7 software = a variable depending on your machines available memory. TT say 300 on a 720 but this is unproven so far. Other figures quoted on this forum range around the low to high 100's
These numbers are INCLUDING any TT cameras, Mapshare updates etc.
You must count the ov2 files in your map folder to get the correct number you have. Do NOT use 'Home' to tell you. |

As Gerry has answered your question i would also like to say that if you have more that 170 what you could do is combine some of them using POI edit or something similar i.e put mcdonalds, kfc, pizza hut, burger king into the one and name it (fast food diners) or whatever suits and this will let you get more places on your TT. You could do this with others also. Hope this is of use to you. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

Thanks, that seems to be the way to go. I've tried to download POIedit, but can only get the web page in Dutch - there's a little UK flag but it doesn't access an English page and I've been unable to download the file. |

Try here and simply select the first one (english) and then save and you should be ok. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

Weird, I can't get some pages to work in Dutch by clicking on the flag. (edit - I can if you go to the FAQ page first)
Anyway, you're after the third item in the list on the left "Downloaden". The first button on that page will download the English version which has English help files etc. _________________ Gerry

In case you haven't got english instructions, to merge several POI files together, you 'File/Open' the first and 'File/Append' the rest, then 'Save As..' with a new name.
Weird though, never had trouble getting to the English page. |

Thanks, is there any way to batch append? There can be lots of files to be appended. |

I've not found one.
I just tried dragging and dropping several files into the open window - that just opened lots of individual file windows.
And I just tried shift-click, control-click or even manually typing two file names separated by a comma, in the 'append open' window, but no luck.
If you find a way, do tell... |
