Whats the opinion of the maps being advertised on Mios website.

MioMap v3 Maps for PND - Western Europe 2007 + 7PPC for Mio C510.

Is it much different than the 2006 version and how often are they updated.
And is it worth upgrading for about £75.

Regards
Robcally

No, it's not worth updating - certainly not for £75. The maps are still way behind in terms of real world road updates - the 2007 maps fail to correct quite a few "no entry" errors and don't include a number of new roads or traffic systems that were present in early 2006. You will notice little (if any) change and even POI errors haven't been corrected.

It's the same situation for France, Belgium and the Netherlands - just for the fun of it ask Mio to calculate a route to Carrefour Calais via ferry and spot the difference between the 2006 and 2007 maps on the French side: there isn't any despite a 2 to 3 year old blocked public road which won't allow you entry to your destination. I could give other examples of basic (and reported) errors that haven't been corrected.

You also can't load the maps in to the device memory - you have to use the SD card every time you access the maps. Mio's software protection means that your device ID is locked to only allow 2006 maps to be used from the flash memory. The US C310 free map update (now that's an idea) came on CD which included a flash updater prog to change the device hardware ID.

£75 is too much for maps that update very little. I use the 2006 maps (having tried the 2007 maps) and I don't miss a thing. I might be tempted to buy the 2009 maps though ;-)
