| Are these navmans suitable for charging via the cigarette lighter with 24 volts? or are they just for 12 volt use? thanks.. |

Probably 12v but I would have thought you could get a cigarette lighter charger which would step down the voltage to 12v from 24v after all these units are used extensively by truck drivers arn't they? The cig.lighter charger is fused anyway so I would guess you won't damage your navman.....
The voltage output of the mains charger is 5v for charging purposes. See the Manual.

| I would seek advice from Navman about your specific device, if you plug it in to 24V and the regulator cannot handle this it could easily fry the device - best to be sure before trying this one - Mike |

This has been discussed in the HGV lounge. Many people successfully run 12V adapters in 24V sockets, but I wouldn't.
One post sugegsts Navman says that 24 is OK provided you plug it in AFTER starting the engine - for me the margin for error is too slim, and I don't like smoking  .
Any thrid party adapter that outputs the same voltage and at least the same current as Navmans would be fine. The USB power connector is now widely used for this so they would be easy to get hold of. |

if you are unsure then you would be better getting a plug in droppper fom somewhere like rroadpro from memory some lower end navmans are only rated at 12 volt the plug in droppers are aprox 15-20 pounds

I have an N40i which has been used extensively on both 24 and 12 volts for over a year now without any problems.
One thing which is not voltage related but worth mentioning before you buy is that the Navman (N40i at least) speaker volume is comparatively quiet and can be hard to hear in a truck.

My iCN610 was designed for a 12Volt supply feed, then further reduced by the adaptor, but NAVMAN informs me that it is safe to run the system on 24 Volts, as long as you turn the engine on before plugging your Navman in to the power source. This will prevent a possible power surge damaging the adaptor or the SATNAV device.
This then makes the iCN610 suitable for both 12/24 Vehicle use!

If it is that marginal, then it is likely to be dangerous, at least to the adapter, if not you - how would you react if smoke started pouring out of the adapter while dealing with a major intersection? Spikes occur when turning the engine on (and off), they can also occur any other time, like when you airco turns on an off, the cooling fan, the heater fan and any other high current or inductive load your truck has installed. Spikes stess and weaken underrated components, till one day..........
You can always take the chance that it won't happen, as many people here have found it doesn't always end in tears.
I suggest if it is not rated for 24V, buy a 24 adapter. The Navman units need a 5V input, so don't go from 24 - 12 - 5, just go from 24-5.
If in doubt, go see an auto electrician. |

| The 610 is indeed dual voltage,as I have one,and have used it for over 3 years,without any problems. |
