Hi rawsondsr,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

I think Brodit mounts are worth it, and what I've seen of Carcomm mounts they seem good quality too.

I use Brodit equipment

£15.99 ProClip
£10.99 Mini Move Clip (213005)
£24.99 for passive mount, more for a powered mount

It soon adds up to £50, £60, or even more. However the benefits are that the system is modular so if you run more than one vehicle, you can swap the mount and PND (Personal Navigation Device) between vehicles.

You can easily remove the mount, leaving just the ProClip. This is a good deterrent against theft.

You don't need to use a windscreen mount, with all of the problems such a mount has (falling off, not easily removed, obscures view of the road, sucker ring is an indicator to a thief that you have a SatNav).

Brodit equipment has a solid feel, and quite often looks like an OEM installation.

If you upgrade your vehicle you just get a new ProClip.

If you upgrade your SatNav, you just get a new mount for it.

Regards,

Whilst this is all true, surely the point of the Brodit and Carcomm powered mounts is that they're left installed permanently? If you remove the mount to dissuade theft, leaving the car-clip behind, then you may as well have the suckered mount and the cables because you have to connect it all back up when you get in again.

Hi carl_w,

I think that the whole point about these mounts is that they can be used to provide a configurable solution that best meets the user's own requirements.

My requirements are to generally have a static and permanently powered mounting solution for my iPAQ 2210 PDA running TomTom Navigator 6. I'm happy to leave the set-up in place at home and at work because both locations are relatively safe. However at other locations I may choose to remove the powered mount leaving an almost invisible ProClip and Mini Move Clip.

Now, I also like the ability to swap mounts. As I've already said, my main SatNav solution is provided by an iPAQ 2210 PDA running TomTom Navigator 6. Now if I want to go on holiday in Jersey, I'll swap the PDA powered mount for a TomTom ONE NE active (powered) mount and I'll place a TomTom ONE NE Europe (with Navteq maps) into the mount.

I personally think that a ProClip with no holder will attract less attention from would-be thieves as the holder could be for practically anything from a SatNav unit, to a mobile phone, to a two way radio, etc.

For some reason (rightly or wrongly) a windscreen mount ring circle shouts SatNav to a car thief, whilst a windscreen mount left in place in a deserted vehicle will tell the thief not only that there is a SatNav but often the make if not the model.

Regards,
