Although I have only just got the new system, I thought I would like to see if anyone from Viamichelin could answer this one.

As the unit uses a li-on battery, these batteries deteriorate from the day of manufacture, and like a mobile phone will begin to lose their "on" time.
However as the unit is sealed, what is the likely method of replacing a battery if it start to fail. ( I know most of the time it is plugged into the car, but I use it to navigate on foot as well Exclamation )
Will it be a factory return , or will it simply be cheaper to buy a new ( better ) nav system in the future Question

With this in mind I brought myself a thing called a Power Monkey Explorer. It's a portable battery which you recharge and has loads of different connectors for things ranging from Sat Navs to handheld games consoles. Best of all the battery itself can also be recharged with a solar panel which comes with it (if we ever get sun in the UK Laughing Out Loud).

So even though the battery in the unit may run down, there is options for keeping it topped up / running.
