|
|
I have copies of maps for NAmerica which I purchased and downloaded from TomTom for use in my original Tom Tom One.
I now have a v2.....it doesn't seem to recognise the maps if I simply swap SD cards.....
Anyone know if what I'm trying to do is possible, and if so, how??!!!
Have emailed TOmTOm support but no reply received....yet...
TIA |

It should be possible, but the maps will require "activating" for the new machine.
If you have installed the map folder to the new machine, you should be able to select it in preferences/manage maps/switch map, but it will then ask for an activation code which you have to get from www.ttcode.com by entering:
1. the "device code" of your TomTom (get that from the information screen you get by tapping the signal strength bars and then the box that shows the software version)
2. the "product code" of the map which should have been sent when you downloaded the map.
You can only get a new activation code once every six months, from what I've been told.
If none of this works, TT can reset the activation code for you, if you RING them, but they make a huge song and dance over it. |

Not familiar with the original ONE since they never sold it in the states, but I suspect that part of your problem may be that you're simply swapping the SD cards, and that could be causing application problems.
Have you updated both units to NavCore 7.162? That'd be my first step towards troubleshooting.
If that doesn't work, a manual move of the map folder to the v2 SD card might be in order.
Just make sure you've backed everything up before you monkey around with this too much! |

OK...
1. Back up EVERYTHING (both cards) to your PC - copy and paste using Windows Explorer not Home.
2. Delete map folder from GOOD card
3. Copy and paste just map folder from BAD card to good card.
4. Boot up with new card.
5. Tell us what happens |

Just caught up with this again....sorry...
Only trouble I see with that is...how do I backup the card if the Tom Tom won't recognise it?? I'm guessing (numpty, sorry) that I need a card reader..... |

When connected to the PC, the TT is only acting as a Card Reader anyway.
Can Explorer read the Card? If so they you can do a Back Up. _________________ Richard

Well...a bit of progress.....
I had loaded the USA maps, when originally downloaded, onto a new SD card as there wasnt enough room on the TT supplied one. So this additional card had the USA maps and a copy of the TT UK stuff - all worked fine.
So, with trepidation, after backing up (with fingers crossed) I deleted the contents of that card. Then reinstalled a copy of the new v2 UK & I mapping onto it......result, all seemed to be working fine....
Then tried copying the USA maps onto this card - seems to have worked, but the TT isnt seeing the maps..if I go to preferences to swap (manage) maps, only the UK is showing....
The files I have indentified and copied for the USA are
Southeastern_Region.cab
Southeastern_Region.cid
Southeastern_Region.ini
Southeastern_Region_2.cab
Am I missing something in the above list???
(so near, yet so far... )
Cheers

Any unit apart from th X20 must have all "the stuff" plus map folder to work. |

When you copied the map files onto the card, what folder did you put them in - "UK & Ireland" or "Southeastern Region"? From my experience, the map name in "Switch maps" is the folder name. What happens if you select it anyway? Also, try renaming the folder to "Southeastern_Region" - may make it easier to see what it's doing .
Also, just check if there were any files in the root (top) folder on the original 'SE Reg' card starting Southeastern etc. They may also need copying across. _________________ Gerry

This doesn't seem right at all to me!
Those are the ARCHIVE files you download that need to be uncompressed to make a working map folder.
The map folder for any country/region should have files like "cline.dat", "cnode.dat", "faces.dat" etc.
It's late and I'm tired, so I'm afraid I'm not going to go through what you did, but you should have copied the map folder from the working card you had (not the download files) onto a working copy of the card from your new machine. If it wouldn't fit, you should have deleted the UK map from THAT card or bought a card big enough for them both to fit.
If you don't HAVE any copies of the actual map folder any more, you should be able to use a de-compression utility to extract them from the .cab file, but I think Oldboy is the best to advise on that, as I think he's done it himself. |

I don't understand why there would be a Region2.cab File. I don't think I have ever seen a CID File.
CAB Files can, generally, be opened with WinZip. Presumably others will do so as well.
Try it and see what you find inside each cab File.
Do you know what Map and Software Versions you were using on the Original ONE? Do you have this Card still intact?
Just to summarise.
I take it the US Map and the UK Map, both worked OK in the Original.
When the card wouldn't work in the New Device, you did a Back Up of the Card.
After deleting the contents of the card, you then copied the TT V2 Card to what was the larger, older card.
That worked OK.
When you copy the Backed Up US Map to the Card, you have problems.
Did you do the Backup with Explorer, or HOME?
Did you copy the complete Folders, each way? This should maintain the Folder Names.
Have you tried a Reset?
Have you run the Clear Flash Utility?
As a final thought - now that HOME does all the Activation, the software doesn't have to go through 'the Map has not been Activated' process.
It could be that the Map is just not Activated for the current device. _________________ Richard

Thanks for all the input chaps!
I think a recap on the current situation might help:
I originally had a TomTom One original for which I purchased from TT SEast area USA maps to cover our regular visits to Florida. In order to be able to set these up on that original TT I purchased a 512Mb SD card onto which I copied the original UK maps plus the downloaded US maps.
All worked fine!
Unfortunately, probably as a result of total (?) discharge through infrequent use, the original TT would not work.
Instead of getting it repaired I figured that I might as well get the new version of the hardware and software.
So, purchased a TTOne v6.56 with UK & Ireland mapping.
First attempt I took out the supplied card and tried to replace with the 512Mb one with the old UK and downloaded US maps - not surprisingly I suppose, it didnt work!
So that was when I first posted.
Where am I now?
Well, I have both original TT SD Cards intact, with UK mapping.
I cleared the additional 512Mb card. I then restored from my last backup thereby putting onto it the new UK & Ireland maps on it, plus the US map files that I identified above copied from my PC hard drive.....unit recognises the UK stuff and runs fine, but, as previously stated, doesnt seem to identify the USA ones...
So, tried a reset....no change!
What I also have on the hard drive is "Southeastern_Region.All.zip" - is this the best bet to, presumably, unzip and then copy contents onto the 512Mb card???
Once again, sorry for what are probably numpty questions....but I'm trying!!!!
I also have on my PC |

Located original download file ("Southeastern_Region.ALL.zip").
Unzipped it and copied all files to card, one by one....using explorer...
menu
rsc
win98
Autorun.inf
cp.txt
setup.exe
Southeastern_Region.cid
ttn.txt
But no more success than previously....
