|

Hi guys,
I'm after some help.
I have just downloaded the new 7.10 UK & Eire map software for my TT 510 from Tom Tom
I backed it up before I downloaded the new software.
Anyway on the new map software it will only let me input 4 digits in the postcode. The old software let me put the full 7 digit postcode in.
On the old 6.50 map software there is a DIR called zip. In here are 2 files called Great_Britain.Postal.
So I copied these files over to the new maps & I now get the 7 digit postcode back.
How comes I never got a new postcode DB with the new maps?
Is this going to be a problem?
Many thanks
Billy |

The new Maps use the same Postcode Files.
Updating the Maps should not have removed the zip Folder. ![Confused](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) _________________ Richard

Sorry mate, forgot to say I used a new SD card for the new 7.10 maps.
So the new map never came with the postcode file.
Thanks for your help here |

The new maps don't seem to bring a new postcode folder with them, so if you go to your old SD card and copy the Zip folder and paste it into your new SD card you should be OK

I recently asked TomTom this very question....
Quote: | Customer (Andy P) 03/12/2007 10.25 AM
I helped a friend to buy and download a new v7.10 WE map last week. We noted that it didn't come with an updated UK postcode file as has happened in the past.
As there have been MANY postcode changes since his previous map and this radically affects the usefulness of the TomTom, why is there no updated file this time please?
Thank you for any assistance you can give. |
To which they gave the usual reply answering a completely different question:
Quote: | Thank you for contacting TomTom Customer Support.
For the Postcode Search Function to work correctly on your device, please try the following:
(They then described how to check the zip folder was present etc, but DID go on to say...)
- If the whole folder "zip" is missing.....
- Download and unzip the 2 files by clicking on the links
(Links removed s they are copyright, I believe)
|
So although they didn't address the question, they DID send links to what I assumed would be the latest postcode files.
BUT, just out of interest, I examined the version number of those files and this is what I then had to reply:
Quote: |
... Secondly, the postcodes file you sent a link to is for **Version 504** which is VERY old.
My colleague already had Version 603 postcodes with his v660 maps from around January 2006, so installing your "update" would have made matters worse, not better.
I have postcodes version 701 on my Go720 with its original v705 mapping, so a newly purchased v710 map should have that version of postcodes at least!
Either the postcode data is part of the operating system in which case it should be included with a software update, or it is part of the (paid for) map data in which case it should be included with a new map download, as has been the case in the past.
Many thanks for any further thoughts you may have on this. |
Now awaiting their next move...
(Edited to shorten and get to the point quicker...)

Exactly the same as what i am going through at the moment aswell
Andy. I am asking them for help to fix my hands-free and the last
3 replies have came back, How to create a wire-less data
connection. I have sent a 4th question and to be honest i think i
know what the reply is going to be. I cannot stress enough to them
it is a Hands-free fault and that my wire-less connection is working
fine. ![Confused](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)
