Hi all.
This is my first post and question to this forum. so forgive me if this has been asked before.
With the above set up it works well when it loads up and finds the sat signals. But why does it take so long to load up?
When I first set up the systen it took 3 hours. Yes you read correct 3 hours before the navigation found sufficent sats for the system to get up and working. ( I love her voice). It still takes a long time to get up and running.
Before the Tom Tom Nav 2, I was running the Smartpath maps that came with the Navman. No problems.

I have read on here that there are teething problems with the Tom Tom Nav 2. Is there a patch for my problem?
Thanks

The older Navman Jackets were infamous for there slow TTFF. Not much you can do about that, they are an old GPS and the whole arena has moved on considerably since then.

However 3 hours is way too long even for a Navman 3000! Where was it when this ocurred? Given a good unobstructed sky view even a Navman 3000 should acquire lock in 10-15mins from a cold start. If this prolonged delay took place in-car then could you have a coated windscreen that is blocking signals?

Thanks for your reply Darren. The windscreen is not coated and the vehcile is Fibre Glass so the signal should not be too obstructed. I have used other gps kit in this motor such as an Etrex with no problems, and as I have said with the same setup I had the Smartpath maps installed. I have a 64meg mm card in the Ipaq and a 128 CF in the Navman. The TTN2 whole of the UK is loaded into the 128 card and SE UK in the 64 card. I was told that it does take time to load up on first cold start, but 3 hours??

It is I again.
I think I have solved the problem of the slow startup.
1st I had other programes still running with the TTN2.
2nd I was in a very built up area (City of London)
Today when I turned it on it only took 10 minutes from cold. (And it was cold this morning)
Great site and very helpful.
