Does this make any sense to one of you pro's on the matter of gps.

Could someone explain me in laymanterms what this is about?

DGPS means Differential GPS. GPS works by comparing signal runtimes from satellites. Now the sats are pretty high up in the sky, and there are all kinds of distortions lurking around to confuse the signal. Clouds, electricity in the upper spheres, solar activity. That's also why your position in the GPS seems to jump around even though you are standing still. It's a bit like the flickering of the stars at night.

Differential GPS comes to the rescue. A number of fixed stations on earth (as the one you see in these pictures) are transmitting a signal similiar to the one the sats transmit. The DGPS station knows exactly where it stands on the earth (taking its knowledge from the geodetic data rather than from GPS), and the station is much closer to the receiver, so the radio wave distortions are smaller as well.

Normal GPS has an accuracy of 15-25 meters, with a good DGPS the accuracy can go down to 15 centimeters...
