Hi Its me yet again...

I have the Tom-Tom Classic.. and use the maps for western Europe that I last upgraded in 2006.
I use a 2 GB SD card to store them on and all the other stuff..
I have just been told that I should upgrade my maps to V7xx by using Tom-Tom home..

To put it short -- I had TT Home and it kept on freezing my computer so I took it off -- and now I download any thing to my desktop (speed cams etc) and transfer it onto my SD car in the correct file..

can I do the same with the latest WE maps.. or do I HAVE to use TT home???

Maurice

No, you HAVE to use Home to download the new map (Home is now used to create the licence key - there's no separate activation code any more)
I think you can actually INSTALL the maps without Home though but it involves extracting the files from the .cab archive yourself.

Have you tried Home v2.1 though? It seems much more stable to me. I haven't had any problems with it.

Are the licences still tied to the device? My ONE XL has newer maps than my GO classic, and it would be nice to be able to copy them over.

You can only have a map activated on a single device, and yes the activation process still locks the map to the device code - Mike

I have just downloaded the TomtomHome V2 and connected my tom-tom and downloaded the latest firmware - 7.x I think it is ..

It works OK -- but now when the tomtom is in the car and on the mount, and I turn the ignition off -- even though the power goes from tom (the Green light goes out) tom stays on.. and I have to turn it off by pushing the button. only then do I get the close down screen.. and turns off..

Before it used to turn off when the ignition went off -- what has gone wrong.

I have tried the paper clip reset -- still the same

Have you got the following menu item?
(With v7, the menu options are different on the various models now - very confusing!)

Look in:
Change preferences / forward arrow enough times to get to to preferences page 7 (possibly) / Battery saving preferences / go past the first screen ("never turn off screen" etc.) and on the next page I have "Switch off when external power is lost" and a box to tick.

Thanks Andy -- that worked Very Happy

the only difference now is that you have to switch it ON -- but perhaps that is good..

Like the first aid -- find the nearest hospital etc..

Yes, would have been nice to have auto switch-ON available as an option too (apparently it DOES on the x10 models Stop it! )

Have you also picked up the add-on files for GB doctors etc?
