I have found this website an absolute saviour, it wasnt until I stumbled on it that I realised how much I didnt know. I am hoping someone can help with my question......

I have a Dell Axim X5 (Cheap model 32mB ram & 300mhz processor). I have MS Autoroute which works OK for finding my way around the UK/ Europe and I do have a SD 64mB memory card in the machine as well. I would like to buy a CF GPS to go with all this.

I am wondering if anyone has a similar setup and what pitfalls there may be to look out for. I want to use the unit while walking around and maybe in rental cars in Europe.

I also have the 3400mAh battery for the Axim which runs for ages (20 hours?) when playings MP3's etc. Now I am wondering how long the Axim will run with a GPS connected, 2, 3, 4 hours???

Also are there any disadvantages to buying the unit in the USA?

Thanks for any replies

Janos

There are a couple of reviews available on this site for CF cards.

I personally would look for a card where the angle of the antenna can be changed - the biggest problem with CF cards is that their construction principle may sometimes create a conflict between the screen angle and the antenna angle, and a joint type card like the Haicoms solves this problem.

For walking you may be interested in a card that supports XTrac.

The current drawn is in the sub 100 mA area. Your extended battery should pull the GPS for more than 3 hours. Switching off the screen backlight also helps greatly.
