|
|
Hi I was looking at an s70 until the problm wth POi was identified. I already have a built in sat nav but you cant add POI to that so wanted something that would run the PGPSW safety camera database plus the BP filling station database, plus some other custom
This is my question to them and their answer, Opinions Please
I am interested in the S70i but note that there are some
issues with not being able to load more than 12000 lines of POI without
the unit crashing. I wish to run this unit in conjunction with the
PocketGPS world Safety camera database. Plase advise if these are
isolated issues or whether there is a fix due shortly POI that will make my life easier.
Dear Tim,
12000 lines is a lot. I do not think you will find much software at the moment where you can load more than that.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Kind regards,
Marianne

12k limit is UK specific problem -- no other country in the world has nowhere near that amount of speed camera locations. If you live in a country which hasn't gone berserk with speed cameras, I can't think of any other reason why anyone would need that many POIs. Can anyone else come up with a valid reason? I was trying to think of one but nothing obvious springs to mind. Maybe for some sort of business? |

One thing to remember is that you need the files to be in CSV format not ASC.
Navmans speed camera data which they get from Roadpoilet is absolutely brilliant. |

I agree the Navman Speed Camera database is good, and very few pop ups when there is no camera really there. The PGPSW one is probably best for mobiles
Either way I am told by Navman that the POI issue will be resolved around Christmas time with a free software patch |

12000 POI'S IS NOTHING, I'VE GOT A NAVMAN N60I AND IT TAKES ALL THE SPEED CAMERAS AND A LOT MORE.I DID HAVE A S90I AND SENT IT BACK BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED POI'S YOU CAN DOWNLOAD.IF THERE OLDER UNITS CAN TAKE THE POI'S WHY CAN'T THE S SERIES? |

My Medion PPC 250 has 20000 UK POI and that is from 70 overlays. There are many I do not have installed. |

I agree that the S Series should be able to handle more POIs - and it will shorty as soon as the patch is available
But firstly, it can handle more than 12,000 pois - there are many more than this included - it is just it cannot handle (well) more than 12,000 CUSTOM pois
Secondly, where too are all you people going that custom POIs over 12,000 are more important than superior mapping, navigation and ease of use?
I tend to know the address of where I want to go, and my s90i takes me there better than any other sat nav I've used |
