I have loaded a lot of mp3 files onto a 1gb SD card and they play ok except that when I look at the contents of the card using explorer it shows a list of titles which is fine, but when I look at the list of songs on the TT520 it is not the same, with many of the songs showing only as "Track 1" or "Track 2" etc. For what it's worth, the mp3 folder on the TomTom itself is empty.
Any ideas? _________________ Bazzza

The TOmTom uses the ID3 "tags" contained in the mp3 files NOT the filenames themselves to show song title, album and artiste.
You can use Media Player or iTunes to view and edit the ID3 tags (right click on a song in iTunes, select "get info" and then select the "info" tab)
If you use iTunes to create the files from CD it will add the details automatically.
I've noticed with some songs that any entry in the "comments" field can confuse the TomTom though. |

Thanks Andy, I don't have ITunes, I use Media Player. Can you talk me through the way of using that. Do I need to delete the tunes from the SD Card and start again? _________________ Bazzza

Andy, Just for your info (and anybody else's), In Windows Media Player, the bit that changes the name in the mp3 file is "Advanced Tag Editor". _________________ Bazzza

If you right click on the Album Icon and select Find Album Info it will download all the information related to that album via the internet. Including Album cover, release date, gene, composer etc. _________________ Graham.

Hi there,
Hopefully someone can help me out. I have just purchased the 520T and am really pleased with it. I just have one issue. I cannot seem to play my Mp3s from my SD card as it does not offer me the option of the SD Card folder. Am I missing something here? I have an mp3 folder in my main memory where the built in player defaults to.
Hop someone can help me out with the please?
Regards Ray |

Just make a folder on the SD card called "mp3" (lower case, no quotes) with Windows Explorer.
Any mp3s in either the folder on the SD card or in the internal flash memory should show up in one long list in the Jukebox. |

The 520 is playing my mp3 files ok now except for the volume thing. This is TT's response.
Me.
Why do I get a huge increase in volume when I switch to FM radio after listening to the mp3 player on my 520?
Them.
You probably have the output of the 520 set low so the card radio volume needs to be higher.
Me.
This is not the case. I have the volume on the TomTom set to max.
It appears that the output from the TomTom is too low, even when set to max. I have noticed on the TomTom forums that a lot of other people have the same problem.
Them.
Try finding another 'clear' frequency on the raido and tune the FM mount to it . What often happens is that although a frequency appears to be clear there is often 'spill-over' from an adjacent transmitter and this interferes with the signal from the FM effectively attenuating it.
Me.
I tried a couple of different frequencies but the result is the same. Could it possibly be that the FM output that you have set on the 520 is too low?
Them.
If you have the volume on the device itself turned up I regret that its not possible to increase the volume in any other way.
Note that at no time is it considered that the fault may lie with them. _________________ Bazzza

bazzza - its a well known fault/annoyance - yes its too quiet. not your fault, theirs, hopefully will be fixed in a software update. |

It's not a well known fault, and is surely car dependent?
Since recent firmware upgrades the 720 is now too loud on MP3 in my car.
I now have to turn the 720 volume down to avoid distortion on my OEM factory Blaupunkt stereo, which means my satnav directions are a bit low in volume now. It was all fine before the updates. |

The issue is with the sound level (be it mp3 or nav voices etc) from the FM transmitter of the TomTom when compared to a normal radio station, I find I have to lower the volume by a considerable amount when switching from the TT device to any other sound source in the car.
I have to say I have not noticed any difference with any of the recent Navcore releases with respect to FM transmitter output volume, there is a definite 25% difference between TomTom audio levels and those used by Kenwood/ Pioneer which I have in my vehicle when I switch between the FM Tx mode and other audio sources - Mike |

I agree with Mike's findings...
The problem really comes down to there just being too many variables happening at once. You have:
1. different voices (TTS or real) needing different volumes on the unit,
2. different outputs available,
3. vastly differing levels of mp3 files (try ripping a CD from the 80's and compare it with a recent one), and
4. different levels of FM radio stations to match too (compare R3 to a commercial pop music station)
at least.
I think the best solution (which I've suggested to TomTom, but I'm not holding my breath...) would be for them to produce a "Volumes" page with separate sliders for every source:
voices/
warning sounds/
music/
hands-free phone audio
etc.
Then they could get rid of the "hidden" hand's free volume control and have the main volume control (that you get by tapping screen bottom left) as the INTERNAL SPEAKER volume.
While I was at it, I suggested they made the muting of mp3s when a navigation instruction happens, OPTIONAL on all outputs (especially the FM), like it is for the Bluetooth output.
I think that they could then satisfy everyone's differing needs. |
