Hi, Is there any way of changing the horrid chirp warning on the Myguide 3100 when approaching speed cams with one which does not sound like a parrott being strangled?
Thanks. |

Slow down to the speed limit and the Parrot goes to sleep. |

Another alternative and possibly closer to what you wanted is to rename the alert sound to another. Of course you need access to the workings of the PNA. It looks like Igo software (MioMap3.2 by another name) and there is quite a lot of info on modifying these. |

I know I should slow down but a more unobtrusive warning sound would be preffered.
Any ideas of how to get to the innards via a pc an which files to change? |

Copy the Data zip file from iGO, paste to a folder on your hard drive, unzip and open the folder.
Open the Audio folder where you will find the !alerts. You can play each one. You'll find !Alert5 is the annoying one.
Go back and open the Common folder. You can open each file one using Notepad.
I opened the speedcam file and searched for a reference to !Alert5 but couldn't see it.
It may be worth looking in the other files to see if there's a reference to it in one of those. If you can you will be able to change !Alert5 to e.g.
!Alert3.
If no luck you could open the Voice or Language folders and copy and paste the English zip files to your hard drive and look there. |

Thanks for the info.
Where can I get the iGo zip files from?
I'm still looking for the audio files on the Myguide, but not found them yet |

Found 'alert5' and yes, that's the enoying one. All I need to do is find a way to change it. |

I've been going through all the folders but can't find anything pointing to the !Alerts. I'll keep looking for a while. |

Do you know what format the audio files are in?
If you are using Windows Explorer to view the files, have you got it set to show the three letter extensions, as I'd expect the file you mention to be "'alert5.wav" or "'alert5.ogg" or something similar.
If you can't see them, enable the correct view in Tools/Folder Options/View tab/UN-tick "Hide extensions for known file types".
If it is one of the above file types, I'd have thought you should be able to get a different audio file and re-save it with that name. |

With 'right-click'-'properties' all the sound files are 'wav' format.
I thought of renaming the files, say alert5 change with alert2 to see if it would change on the unit. I'll have to copy the complete audio file, make changes and then replace the existing file on the device with the modified one.
What do you think.
Note: The files are in the 'data zip file. Copy and paste the file to your desktop, unzip the file, click 'audio' file and all the sounds are there. |

All the direction voices are .ogg files.
I've now opened every data .zip folder and can find no reference pointing to the !alerts. I would have thought there would be somewhere, as you can configure the Alerts as None, Simple and When approaching. |

I'll leave you to sort out between you whether they are wavs or oggs, I haven't got one so I can't look myself.
But I reckon your experiment of changing a couple of sounds around should work. Then you can try renaming any other wav file as one of yours.
As ever, make sure you have a good backup before you start playing though. |

I think that the Igo software is hard coded to sound alert5 when speeding. I could not find a call to it in my MioMape3.2 (Igo) either.
What I did was to rename alert5 to alert5old then found a sound thet was not too objectionable , copied it and renamed it to alert5.
It seems that the igo software will play either .wav or .ogg files. I have used both but have not tried .mp3.
What I did eventually was to rewrite the patch.ui file so that I only got one speedcam warning on approach . Luckily, I normally pay enough attention to know what the local speed limit is, and my speedo tells me when I am speeding or not. I do NOT need a turkey gobble sound to tell me. |

That's exactly what i need, a single tone warning on approach to a speed camera like a bing or bong like my old Navman 630.
Have you a sound i could try? IM me if you have and I'll give it a go.
Backup, backup I sure will |

Sorry for the delay. The only problem with changing the turkey sound to another one is that it still keeps on repeating. You could go for a less obtrusive, quieter sound, but the good fix is to fiddle around in patch.ui (For MioMap3.2) to make it sound only once when the software is first alerted to a cam. |
