Two things...
Windows itself can't open them, you need a program like POI Edit to read them (but you probably knew that...)
TomTom's own speed camera files and TomTom's mapshare update files both use the same .ov2 extension, but they are not standard ov2s and POIEdit cannot open them. It should still be able to open POI files from here though. |

I did have POI edit, I thought you had to open the folder with the OV2 files in it to copy and past into GB maps not just copy and past the folder.
I open the folder in POI edit and all the OV2 files expand in a drop down list but I can't copy and past from POI edit, so I deleted POI edit as I read it was not supported anymore and that is why I now get windows can't open these files.
Should I have just used POIedit to download and update as I used to before you had to suscribe and pay? |

The 'Folder' that you downloaded is a Zip File. This has to be unZipped to decompress the Files. The 'Folder' (Zip File) itself, is not copied to the Map Folder.
The end result is what you copy to the Map Folder.
As to POIEdit, it is a multi-purpose tool. It's unable to download the Camera Files from the Site because of the way they are now created. So in that respect it is not supported.
But POIEdit as a standalone program can open OV2 Files and manipulate the data that they contain. It's a useful tool and I often use it myself. _________________ Richard

Sorry to go on but if I've got it right all I have to do is download from Pocket GPS World after say choosing all cameras, then just copy and past the speed camera part out of the selection that opens into my maps and not open the speed camera part in POI edit as I did and then try to copy and past. |

I have tried the reset option but it didn't work. I have just removed the old speed camera and .bmp files from my device with the Tom Tom connected and not the SD card in my card reader ( as I have been doing ) and it all appears to be working again.
I don't know what difference that makes? all I have to do now is try and load the speed camera files again, I will do this with the Tom Tom connected again and see what happens. |
