Has anybody tried it, and are there any issues or advantages?
I'd consider it, but after the firmware debacles with the i3, I'm loath to suddenly jump on a newer firmware version, that's actually worse.
However, anything that helps with traffic (and has there been any GTM-21 firmware releases in the past month?) would be worthwhile to me.
One other question... my C510T has a firmware version not available for download - 5.80. Is there any way that can be backed up, so that I could revert to it, if 6.00 was as bad as the post 2.70 versions for the i3 ;-)

The last GTM update was back in August (although it was September when it was generally available). _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums.
Assuming you've not already done this update, save the GUPDATE.GCD file that's currently on the unit - that's the firmware loader.
I don't believe it is possible to downgrade the individual modules (Sirf etc), just the main firmware; so any of these that V6.0.0 bundles, will be permanently applied. (These are the various .bin files, that you'll find in \RemoteSW and the \Garmin directory)
Makes sense, don't think it was ever released. Don't know why that is, my C510T came with that version of firmware on it. Soon after getting it, I did check out the versions, to see whether it was out of date - it was then I noticed that 5.80 didn't seem to be available (5.70 was the latest available at that point).

So if I save that, I can reinstate 5.80 insofar as software (ie the sat nav software that the user interacts with)?

I guess what I was interested in, being as I find 5.80 perfectly fine, is that if I did try 6.00 and wasn't happy (from my perspective, Garmin have some form in releases of firmware for some units, that's quite flawed, compared with a "gold" version (ie v2.70 on the i3)) then I could revert to a version that I've found works OK.
I guess I'm interested in new versions, in case there's any improvements to the way traffic is handled (I realise this unit software update isn't an update to the GTM firmware). Quite often, I'm convinced that all the tweaks and changes are necessarily listed in the change log.
Copy2Card reads the UpdateInfo.xml to tell the user what version it is, figure out where the files are and find out if it should erase the unit first. Then basically, it just copies the specified files to the unit and they are detected when it's rebooted.
So copying your own GUPDATE.GCD back on, is not actually that different to what the official software does. You could even make your own V5.8.0 installer from these components, if you really wanted to.

I'm yet to figure out why this is V6.0.0 rather than V5.9.0 - nothing in the release notes seem to justify that. There again, there was nothing in the release notes for V5.2.0 that mentioned that they'd radically changed the interface. (V5.0.0 and V5.1.0 never made an appearance and V5.3.0 was swiftly required to fix V5.2.0)
