Possible power surge on start up

HI All

Thanks to the advise on this forum i am now up and running with Tom Tom 2 and a Leadtrek Gps mouse with Tom Tom PDA holder. The Holder is hardwired into the cars electrics with the positive feed protected by a 3 amp in line fuse.

the power to the holder is only on when the ignition is turned on, lighting the green light on the holder.

My question is: When is it safe to place the PDA in the holder? I am concerned that if i put the PDA in the holder with ignition/power on then turn the ignition key to start the engine that the PDA receives a power surge every time i do this

Is it best to Start the engine first then insert the PDA into the holder or is it just as safe to turn the ignition to standby, Green light on, insert the PDA into the holder, then start the engine????

I don't think you'll have any problems. I leave mine in it's Brodit holder when I start the car and have no ill effects, same goes for my TT BT GPS. I think I'm correct in saying that as the power is fed via the battery it is in effect stabilised and so does not suffer from surges as you describe.
