I have bought a Clip-On Bluetooth GPS Fortuna to use it with my IPAQ 4150 and TomTom Nav. 2 ...
GPS Mouse: Fortuna Clip-On Bluetooth - Version 1.2 2003/10/29
PDA: IPAQ 4150
SW: Tom Tom Navigator 2
I use GPS Driver 2.09 !
My Bluetooth Connection between IPAQ and GPS Mouse works... blue led blinking.
My Bluetooth settings:
Input Com: 8
Output Com: 6
Baudrate: 38400
My problem is, that the Fortuna Mouse does not find any satellite, always red gps light, so no fix.
NMEA 0183v2 38400
Bluetooth Serial Port COM8
I tried ST und XT Mode, but always the same effect, no satellites ... :-(
Does anyone have this constelation where it works ?
I have no idea, why it doesnt work...
i would appreciate if somebody can help me...

Hmm. Looks like you do everything right.
- What happens when you access the receiver via WinFast Navigator?
- Can you try to install the TomTom GPS 2.07 and see if that changes anything?

where can i download this version.. the problem is that in version 2.09
it stands that only their will ipaq 4150 supportet.. ??
i have installed winfast as well, but i get no data... i tried
4800 - nmea, sirf, port 8, port 6, ... everything... :-(
should the gps led getting green anyway or only if i am connected via bt
to my ppc ? because it is always red in st and orange in xt mode... it
never changed to green light..

after 30 minutes removing the akku of the fortuna bt, and setting it back
to st mode, the mouse gps led is getting green. and now he is able
to find satellites....
i had to connect it to COM Port 6 ...
anyway it works....

I still can't get my Fortuna to get a sstrong signal. All I see are the first two bars in the GPS status screen go up and down (grey). I have it on IRF 4800 and COM6. What could I be doing wrong?
Btw, what's "akku"? Are you referring to the battery? |

yes, akku is short for accumulator. Technically these guys don't have batteries - they have rechargeable thingies, and these are called accumulators in some languages.
If you have any issues connecting, always try the default setting first. For BT this would be NMEA 38400. You can fool around with the SiRF protocol after you got it working... Not that you would need to. There is no benefit from using SiRF.

I have exactly the same setup and was tearing my hair out trying to get it working on Friday! I too was trying to connect on COM8 because I thought I had to use the incoming port. I also didn't realise that it wouldn't connect if no satellites were found - I assumed it would just tell me!
Once I'd stood outside for 5 mins and tried every setting possible I was really happy with the results - it's a nice combination. |

Chaps,
I am having an absolute nightmare with this. The instructions are pathetic for a start  Anyway, I've tried just about every combination with the following equipment:
iPaq 4150
Fortuna Clipon Bluetooth
TTN2
I've tried NMEA 38400 bt (even though there were no instructions anywhere telling me to try this  I'm able to get a bluetooth relationship between the pda and the clipon and I've tried various comports ( 6 and 8 - again, pure guesswork) to no avail. On the clipon - blue light is stable and both green lights are lit.
I've also tried the latest driver from TomTom (v.209 as it says on the site that 4150 support has been added)
CAn anyone help?

Hi There
I had many problems getting my set-up working. (see below)
Finally all now works well having created a Bluetooth Serial Connection on the iPAQ to the Fortuna (but not Connecting this Serial Port) and set the TomTom GPS to NMEA 0183v2 and Serial Port COM 6.

First of all, thanks for the help everyone, the resources on this site are invaluable! My problems were sorted after a hard reset of the 4150, then I ensured that the bluetooth connections to the clipon were afforded the greatet freedom - in other words I made sure that authentication was off and all devices allowed! It's working flawlessly, I just need to gradually lock down the BT on the 4150 again.
One thing I would like to drive home though - How do manufacturers of these devices expect mass market take up when they provide little if no instructions!? I've seen most people with my setup suffer and everyone seems to guess at the required configuration until they hit lucky, not acceptable for equipment of this type

The problem is that the people who would usually be expected to purchase a Pocket PC have always been considered to be the hard core techies. The ones that can go in and mess around in the registry on a PC, tweak driver settings, build config.sys's and diagnose problems.
The problem is because Pocket PC's have evolved over the past few years, so many more 'consumer' type of applications are being built for them like GPS which is opening the spread of the Pocket PC into other consumer type markets, manufacturers just expect you know how to do this sort of thing. I know it's not right, but it's the way it currently is.
This is why if newbie's who have never used a Pocket PC want an in-car system, then providing they don't mind paying a bit more, I'll steer them towards a Street Pilot or iCN630, because they're easy to use. If people are set on having a Pocket PC then fine, but Pocket PC's are technical devices. |

Hmm, not sure if the average PPC buyer necessarily falls into that category. Technology is supposed to be accessible, a pocket PC is a consumer device, but I take the point, PPC owners are more likely to be tech aware 
My comment about the instructions is still valid I think, any one of the regulars here could probably knock together some instructions to configure the clipon with an iPAQ or WHY that is much better than what is currently provided. You shouldn't have to search the Internet to realise you need to set com port this and nmea that :D . I am (supposedly) an IT Professional and I am embarrassed to admit I spent several hours trying to get this rig working, which I couldn't have done without this site's excellent resources, it really is a credit to you all. I am just scratching the surface at the moment, I am scared that this might turn into a hobby instead of purely a useful tool!
