Firstly, apologies if this has been asked before....

Only yesterday I downloaded the then current speed camera database (speed zoned files) onto my Tom Tom and then went about assigning different audio alerts and distances for alerts to sound on my device. Now, rather impressively, that the database has been updated can I just swap the files over on my Tom Tom and not have to re-assign everything as far as the alerts/distances go on my Tom Tom OR do I have to go through all of that assigning process again?

Also, what seems to be a sensible distance to set for audio alerts to sound, I know it's a rather subjective question but interested to hear others opinions.

No need to even swap them. Providing you use Windows Explorer, all you need do is copy the newer camera .ov2 files onto your device. It's real nice magic. The only way you can go wrong is if you download a different set of cameras, then the warnings and distances wouldn't pick them up. Hopefully, you already downloaded the speed zoned set and doing the same again gives you the same file names to copy. They'll overwrite the existing ones (after asking your permission, of course).

Sorry, forgot to add - Distances :-

A fairly general, useful thing is to set distance as "ten times speed", e.g. for 30mph set 300 yards. 40mph 400yds, etc. That will give you (roughly) 20 seconds advance warning if you're travelling at the speed of the camera. But for mobiles, maybe double that because they often can see you from a zillion yards away.

There's a pretty accurate table down towards the bottom of this page if you want to get fancy about it.

Hi DennisN

Many thanks for your answers, I thought that would probably be the case with the overwriting the files but wasn't 100%. Also, useful link and will definitely look at setting up my distances loosely based on the suggestions.
