I have had my 510 for 6 months and have realised over the last few weeks that the built in POI are not working (I'm a bit slow!!!!)
I've e-mailed tomtom support and they have offered many solutions, none of which work and they are now clutching at straws it would seem.
HELP!!!! :-)

Have you got a file called poi.dat in the Map Folder?

If not, do you have a Day 1 Backup, that you could use to re-install it?

Yeah, the file is there and in lower case (some of the other posts seemed to suggest that this might be a problem if it is in upper case).
Thanks

You could try opening the poi.dat file in POI Data Viewer from Ray's site http://www.tomtomsatnav.info/poidatviewer.html.
That would at least tell you if it was corrupted or not.

Oh no, she's back I hear you say!!!

Well I tried opening the poi file using Ray's viewer and got the following error: 'Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately' and 'The process cannot access the file 'bla bla bla\poi.dat' because it is being used by another process.

I then copied the file to my desktop and tried it again. The first bit of the error was the same, but was followed by: 'Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow'.

I'm sure that I am doing something stupid so please don't laugh :-)

More help needed for 'should be' blonde!!!!

It's certainly looking like the poi.dat file is corrupted.
As its a copyrighted file, your only (legal) option is to keep badgering at TomTom to get them to send it to you. If you say that their "Home" utility ruined it, they will probably believe you! Laughing

Ok, it's fixed! I found a backup (yes I know it was suggested at the beginning of the thread but I couldn't find it then) which had a poi.dat file that wasn't corrupt! Yippee

Thanks for all your help guys :-)
