I have been reluctant to download and install the above following all the problems people had with them and still on application 7.0 and home V1.6. I have noticed lately that not much is mentioned on this and was wondering if it is safe to download and install them?
Please help. |

Home 2 install gives you the option to keep v1.6 if you want to and if you have a full backup of the Go, you can always restore back to v7.0, so there shouldn't be a problem trying them out. |

But HOME2 also 'disables' HOME 1.6 so you need to retain the install file in order to repair 1.6, should you decide that 2 doesn't cut the mustard.
On a personal note, I use 7.010 and HOME 1.6. _________________ Tim |

Thanks Andy. Are you using the new application 7.01 and home 2.0? |

In what way does it disable it?
I seem to have both running quite happily on my work PC.
I suppose it might overwrite where the shortcut in the Start Menu points to, but I had moved my v1.6 shortcut to elsewhere on my Start menu, and the v2 one just added at the bottom when I installed it. |

Ah, maybe it was with a previous version. In the past, after removing 2, I've had to repair 1.6 to get it operational again. I have to confess that I haven't checked this with the 370 build. _________________ Tim |

I'm using v7.010 software and although I'm playing with Home 2, I think I;ll stick with Home 1.6 for now because I prefer the interface (not that I LIKE it, its still rubbish, but better the devil you know! ) |

In relation to the 7.0.1 firmware, no-one still knows what was actually in it. Tomtom still don't have it listed on their site..shame be upon them
Has anyone else noticed how home 1.6 continually downloads the home v2 app. For example, I connected to home 1.6 yesterday and in the bottom right hand side of the app it's clearly downloading a big file. I'm on an 8mb adsl line which downloads at 700kb plus per sec. After this download finishes a message pops up informing me a new version of home exists and I'm asked if I want to install it. I always choose no. Having looked in the download folder of the tom tom folder in my documents I note the new home app, weighing in at 21.7mb is sitting there. Ok so it's downloaded in the background...without asking me if I mind my bandwidth being wasted on something I haven't asked for.
Now if this isn't bad enough, today I connect home 1.6 again and the same updated version of home, again weighing in at 21.7 mb is downloaded once more. WTF?? Why oh why is it downloaded again? Surely it would be much more sensible having downloaded it once just to leave the there. Whay download it a second and a third and a fourth and in fact every time I connect home 1.6 to the web. Boy that is one crap concept isn't it? |

I'd just noticed the same thing. I decided to try Home v2 on my work PC, but DIDN'T want it at home.
To my mind, when they ask "A new version is available, do you want to install it?" should be the point at which *I* decide whether it gets downloaded or not. TT obviously think they know better... |

This is beginning to smack as TomTom dictating what you run and do. It's going that way with the MapShare, it downloads the POI updates into the map folder adding to the PGPSW .OV2's you already have, I wouldn't mind betting that it will be the none TomTom .OV2's over the 100 limit that will get ignored. _________________ Graham.

This really is a stupid state of affairs and something I am greeted with on connection of each device! - not much fun when I want to run Home 1,6
I think TomTom really out to address this issue as it is their own bandwidth that their software is consuming for no valid reason at all.
Consider the 21MB mulitplied by all the users that connect a device via a PC?? - quite a few GB of data per day I would think - Mike |

I must confess that I do not understand all this talk of software, firmware, versions etc. All I know is that since I bought my TTG520 and downloaded the new version of "Home" I can no longer connect my TTG300 to home. It just doesn't recognise it. Even when I connect the 520 it seems pretty useless. Where can I download the old version from? and if I can, will it work with my 520? Bring back the old version! _________________ Bazzza

You should have kept v1.6 when you installed v2 (it was an option during the install process.
Even so, the installer file is very probably still on your PC somewhere. All the recent v1 versions seem to have been called "TomTomHOMEwinlatest.exe" (typical crap TomTom naming practise), so you could set Explorer on a search for that.
Otherwise when you go to "support" on the TomTom website and type "Home" into the searchbox, its not difficult to find several mentions of links to download it.
One of them:
http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17 seems to be offering v1.5.106 if that is any good to you. I'm sure a v1.6 verson is probably lurking on there somewhere. |
