|

I've just ordered a 720 and after reading some posts on here am concerned that my mobile phone may not be compatible. I want to use the tomtom as a hands free, would love it to be able to read my text messages and I also intend subscribing to traffic.
I currently have an LG U830 on 3 with x-series silver. I could possibly change the phone but not the contract.
Any suggestions or advice please? |

The handsfree should work with any bluetooth handset, but SMS reading may not be possible.
The traffic services may depend on your service provider contract, as 3 are known to block many data services, and there are many reports of traffic not working with a 3 contract.

Well the 720 arrived today and I've just tried connecting it to my LG mobile and sure enough it doesn't even work as a hands free.
Has anyone found any modern phones that aren't on Tomtoms's list that offer full compatibility please? I'd really like to get a Nokia 6120 classic. Does anyone know if this would work OK? |

Hi.
My SonyEricsson W810i works with all my 720's features (second unit after a faulty Hands Free) even though it's not listed on TomTom's site. I suspect that a lot of SonyEricssons will be OK even though TomTom don't have them listed. |

I'm unaware of any Blackberry phones successfully connecting with the units unless they're on the list -
Some people are able to connect their phone even if it's not on the compatibility list, but if you can't get a feature, we can't troubleshoot it for the sole fact that it is not on the list. A lot of times it has to do with the fact that TomTom units use GPRS as well.. |

All I want my BB Curve to do is to pair with the 720 and receive/make calls, not interested in the data side of things. I'm not buying this if I can't do this simple thing.[/url] |

My Blackberry 8800 on O2 is able to pair with my Tomtom GO 710, and I can make / receive calls, copy address book. It doesn't work with data services, I believe this may be a specific BlackBerry issue. Although a google search does show some users in the states have got the data services to work. I think it depends how the BlackBerry enterprise server is set up.
Hope that helps. |

Does anyone know if the 720 works with the Nokia N95? There is nothing on the compatibility list.
Also, I take it if I use this GPRS for traffic it is going to add a lot of money to my monthly bill? |

You say the W810i works with all the functions.....so I assume that includes automatically reading out received SMS text messages? I've had SE phones for years but have just bought a Nokia 6300 because they seemed to have better compatability with the Tomtom range. Well, I know the 6300 isn't listed as compatible but it has all the features which should be required, but I just can't get it to reading incoming text messages!
Can I ask on which network you're using the W810i, not sure if this makes any difference but I'm on Virgin P-A-Y-G. If anybody has managed to do this on a 6300 I'd be very happy to hear from you. |

My w810i does the job just fine (with the Go720)
As to Sony vs. Nokia Tomtom compatability, my wife's Nokia 7373 wors for Tomtom Plus, handsfree calling etc., but does not read aloud SMS messages. |

To answer my own question I got to try my N95 with a 720 today and it paired fine, and everything worked apart from reading text messages. |

I have now checked the following Nokia phones and have found them all to work with everything except reading text messages: N73, 6280 and 6120.
Edit: 6120 doesn't work properly as a handsfree. The sound cuts out afer about 10 seconds although the phone call is not ended.

I have experienced problems with hands free on the 720 and Nokia 6300(not listed), during a call and another call comes in it just cuts the first call and takes the 2nd call without warning. The other thing is sometimes during a call the caller is cut off and part of a word last spoken is repeated through TomTom and the only way to stop it is to switch it off and then it automatically switches on again.
Has anyone else experienced this? |
