|
I am new on here and a mere beginner....
I have just purchased a secondhand Drivesmart that is in great condition and am I correct in saying that this company is no longer trading although there is plenty of stock with distributors around the UK...
I also gather that the Windscreen Bracket they introduced is no longer available.
I need to update the unit with all the latest speed camera info.
How do I do this
Sorry to be a pain...
Looking forward to some help please....
Nite

Welcome Paula, To update you'll need the DriveSmart update software installed on your PC and the USB-Serial cable that came with it. The latest update software can be downloaded here.
All you then need is a subscription to access the camera downloads here (£2/month or £19 for a year) and you'll be good to go. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Morning MaFt......
I have just looked at the Drive Smart's Distruction book ( ) and tried to install the USB to serial cable.
It appears that the one that I have ( for Windows XP ) will not work but they do say in the booklet that for Windows 95 or 98 users ( 98 is the one that I have ) it might not work due to conflicts within Windows itself.
They then say that if this happens on your PC, then contact Drivesmart and they will send an appropriate serial cable for my PC free of charge.
Of course, we cannot contact them at present....
Shall I abandon installing the Drivesmart PC Loader software that came with the unit and simply download your software on it's own...... ( after I have paid the Subscription naturally )
As it is secondhand, the unit has already been downloaded with information up to about a year ago.
Looking forward to your reply.
Take care
Paula

I'm not MaFt but by the power of the web I can reply from Dubai whereas he's on holiday in the UK and does not have web access!
If your PC is Windows98 and not the later Windows98SE then it does not support USB devices. However, a standard 9-Pin Serial Male - 9-Pin Serial Female cable would work fine.
Most decent computer stores or specialists should stock them, they were used to connect modems to your PC before broadband came along and are inexpensive. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I do have a Digital Camera 21 in 1 Card Reader/Writer that connects via the USB and that works OK with my PC....
So why doesn't this work..... Any ideas
Anyway, I have a good local computer shop that should be able to supply me with the lead that you think I should have....
Have a nice evening and look forward to your reply.

PaulaThree.
Have you been to the Drive-smart website and downloaded the lasted version of the usb driver? The cable you have got should be alright. I don't recall there being a different cable mine is a usb/serial cable and I use it with Vista but you will have to update the driver if you haven't already done so. Getting use to the update process always took a bit of trial and error.
Once you have updated the driver and have the update programme on screen, you will need to experiement with the usb setting top left hand corner of the programme i.e. 1 - 2 - 3 etc but each time you select one and go through the process of trying to upload the database you need to pull out and reinsert the power lead to the Drivesmart (quickly whilst the bars are scaling up) If it reports an error try the next port and repeat etc. If you are successful the bar will turn to a block loading image. The error message is not a fault with the programme. Below the usb port setting make sure you highlight the highest setting for transfer. |

And I have just bought the 9 pin male to 9 pin female lead...
Still my local PC shop said that if it does not work, I can get the £4.95 refund....
Can't wait to get the thing working now.
My ex-partner and friend John is coming round in the morning and he is a PC expert, so ( hopefully ) we can get it working together. ( whoops that sounds wrong, doesn't it.. )
Darren when are back from the hot desert as I would love to come over and get the windscreen bracket that you so kindly said that I could have?
Nite
